Correlation between mechanical stability and hardness of austenite in martensite/austenite mixtures

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2021
Abstract The hardness of austenite in Fe−1.5%Mn−(0.44–1.46)%C steels with microstructures consisting of austenite and martensite was estimated by an extrapolation procedure. The procedure involved heat treatments to obtain different fractions of athermal martensite. For each carbon concentration, the variation of hardness with martensite fraction was

Austenite stabilization through manganese enrichment

Scripta Materialia, 2011
A model is proposed to predict austenite stabilization through manganese partitioning between ferrite and austenite. The model predicts retained austenite fractions as a function of intercritical annealing temperature based on equilibrium phase fractions and solute contents.

Stabilization of Austenite by Hydrogen

Nature, 1960
ATTEMPTS to study the possible effects of hydrogen on the austentite–martensite transformation in steels have always to reckon with the difficulty of retaining adequate amounts of hydrogen in them, regardless of the amounts initially present. The austenitizing and heat treatment of steels are generally carried out at virtually atmospheric pressures or ...

Mechanical Stability of Austenite

2023
A key design consideration in advanced highs strength steels is to take advantage of the transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) effect arising from the deformation-induced martensitic transformation of metastable austenite, which is strongly related to the austenite mechanical stability. This thesis investigates how the austenite mechanical stability,
