Actuation Strategies for Underwater Jet‐Propelled Soft Robots

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 6, Page 3868-3892, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This review article examines jet‐propulsion mechanisms in underwater soft robotic systems, focusing exclusively on physically fabricated and experimentally validated robots. Covering research published from 2013 to 2025, this study classifies and evaluates jet‐propulsion robots based on their actuation mechanisms.

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 16, 19 August 2026.
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

Hierarchical Ordering Induced Ultrahigh Cryogenic Strength and Strain Hardening in a Ni2CoFeV Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 44, 7 August 2026.
A tri‐phase Ni2CoFeV medium‐entropy alloy with fcc, κ, and L12 phases achieves exceptional cryogenic strength‐ductility synergy at 77 K. It delivers a yield strength of 1.4 GPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 2.07 GPa and a tensile ductility of 28%.

Structurally Complex Precipitates Enhance Strength‐Ductility Synergy in a Duplex Medium Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 46, 17 August 2026.
Strong‐yet‐ductile precipitation‐hardening alloys require novel microstructural complexity of precipitates in particularly at cryogenic condition, to constantly impart strain hardening of hard‐and‐brittle precipitates. The present work creates innovative structurally complex precipitates assembled with dispersed nanocores and a chemical‐heterogeneity ...

Hierarchical Twin Networks Enable Exceptional Strength and Fracture Toughness in Titanium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 46, 17 August 2026.
A commercial‐purity titanium with hierarchical ultrafine twin structures delivers an exceptional combination of fracture toughness (KJIc) of 187 MPa·m1/2 and specific yield strength of 140 MPa·cm3·g−1, in which pre‐engineered high‐density twin boundaries stimulate massive and dislocations to blunt crack tip.

Failure Investigation of Alloy 625 Sockolets After Prolonged Service in an Ammonia Cracker Unit

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 77, Issue 8, Page 1375-1384, August 2026.
The failure of the sockolets was caused by intergranular cracking and fracture. The thick and highly brittle nitrided layer formed intergranular surface cracks, which propagated along grain boundaries into the base alloy substrate due to the presence of brittle Cr‐rich carbides. ABSTRACT Several sockolets of Alloy 625 operating at 540°C in contact with
