Austenitization

1999
Abstract This chapter examines the structural changes that occur in high-carbon steels during austenitization. It describes the effect of heating time and temperature on the production of austenite and the associated transformation of ferrite and cementite in eutectoid, hypoeutectoid, and hypereutectoid steels.

Recrystallization of austenite

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1980
A laboratory simulation of hot-rolling schedules, which employs a sequence of high-speed compressions performed over a range of temperatures, was used to determine the effects of composition and processing variables on the state of the austenite at several points in the hot-rolling procedure.

Effect of austenite on mechanical properties in high manganese austenitic stainless steel with two phase of martensite and austenite

Metals and Materials International, 2015
The effect of the austenite phase on mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steels was investigated using specimens with different volume fractions of retained and reversed austenite. Stainless steels with dual-phase coexisting martensite and austenite were successfully synthesized by deformation and reverse transformation treatment in the cold ...

Development and Validation of a Thermometallurgical Model for Furnace-Based Austenitization During Hot Stamping

Journal of heat transfer, 2019
In hot-forming die-quenching (HFDQ) boron manganese steel blanks are heated within a roller hearth furnace, and then simultaneously quenched and formed into fully martensitic body-in-white components.

Thermal and Mechanical Stability of Austenite in Metastable Austenitic Stainless Steel

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2019
The roles of grain size, texture, strain, and strain rate on the thermal and mechanical stability of austenite in AISI 321 metastable austenitic stainless steel were studied. Ultrafine grain (UFG), fine grain (FG), and coarse grain (CG) specimens with average grain sizes of 0.24, 3, and 37 µm sizes, respectively, were investigated.

Austenitizing in Steels

2013
AbstractAustenitization refers to heating into the austenite phase field, during which the austenite structure is formed. This article highlights the purpose of austenitization, and reviews the mechanism and importance of thermodynamics and kinetics of austenite structure using an iron-carbon binary phase diagram.

Austenitization of Steels

1996
Abstract Austenitization is the heat treatment of steel in the austenite region, and it is conducted for two reasons. One is to obtain austenite as a necessary precursor for heat treatment, and this is the main emphasis of this chapter.
