Toward the Application of Multiaxial Failure Criteria: Mean Stress Sensitivity of Carbide‐Rich, High‐Alloy PM‐HIP Tool Steels Under Axial and Torsional Cyclic Loading

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study quantifies axial and torsional long‐life fatigue (LLF) behavior of three carbide‐rich PM‐HIP tool steels, correlating LLF strength with intrinsic defect size and cleanliness, thereby extracting material‐specific mean stress sensitivities and Haigh diagrams.

The effect of double austenitization on the microstructure and fracture toughness of AISI M2 high speed steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
In this study, the effect of double austenitization on microstructure and toughness of AISI M2 high speed steel was investigated. For double austenitization treatment, the specimens, which are hardened initially at 1220 degrees C and quenched in air ...

Phase Transformation Behavior of Continuously Cooled Fe–C–V–(Mo) Alloys

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Additions of vanadium and molybdenum microalloying are shown to reshape phase transformations in clean low‐carbon steels. By tracking microstructural shifts during continuous cooling, the work uncovers the correlation between transformation kinetics, ferrite morphology, and hardness.

A better understanding of hydrogen trapping and diffusion in aluminized press-hardenable steels

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Press hardenable steels (PHS) coated with Al–Si alloy are widely used in the automotive industry owing to their good mechanical properties (Yield Strength >1200 MPa and Tensile Strength >1500 MPa).

Low Temperature Ion Nitriding of Austenitic Stainless Steels

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Institute of Metals, 1997
The surface nitrided layer of austenitic stainless steels ion-nitrided at a relatively low temperature of about 623 K was investigated in order to elucidate the nature of an f.c.t. nitride Y N formed in this layer with high corrosion resistance and high hardness of about Hv 1500.

Press Hardening for Sustainable Lightweight Chassis Design in Heavy‐Duty Vehicles: A Material Performance and Life Cycle Assessment Approach

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The article explores how high‐strength steels and press hardening revolutionize lightweight chassis design for heavy‐duty vehicles. It reveals that press hardened steels combined with shot peening can cut weight by up to 34% and reduce environmental impact by 21%–32%.

The Influence of Austenitization Conditions on Grain Growth and the Bending Performance of Boron Steel [PDF]

open access: yes
During production of components using press hardening, the steel will at one point be heated to an austenitic state. Grain growth can occur during this austenitization if the time and temperature are sufficient, where the microstructure becomes ...

In Situ Techniques for the Investigation of the Kinetics of Austenitization of Supermartensitic Stainless Steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The austenitization and inter-critical annealing of X4CrNiMo16-5-1 (1.4418)supermartensitic stainless steel were investigated in-situ with synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), dilatometry and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under isochronal ...
