Laboratory breeding studies of freshwater crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet)
Freshwater Biology, 1988SUMMARY. 1. Mature crayfish, collected from an Irish lake before breeding had started, were held in breeding combinations and their mating and brooding activities observed.2. All mating attempts were initiated by the male. A single mating led to spawning within 6 days but a subsequent mating cancelled the effects of the first.

Forag ing by a threatened species - the whiteclawed crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes
Archiv für Hydrobiologie, 2001In analysing the eco-ethological traits of animal populations from the viewpoint of conservation biology, an understanding of the foraging activity of endangered species provides useful clues on habitat requirements and resource utilisation. The present study examined the foraging excursions of 60 specimens of the threatened crayfish, Austropotamobius ...

The White-clawed Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) has been assessed as Endangered under criterion A2ce. In the last ten years this species is suspected to have undergone a decline of somewhere between 50 - 80% based on presence/absence data available for England, France and Italy. The situation in these countries is thought to be similar to that of

Dimorphism and the Life Cycle of Austropotamobius Pallipes (Lereboullet, 1858)

The Hatchling Setae of Austropotamobius Pallipes (Lereboullet) (Decapoda, Astacidae)

Food selection in freshwater omnivores: a case study of crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes
Archiv für Hydrobiologie, 2004The omnivorous habit and food selection in freshwater macroinvertebrates was investigated in the white-clawed crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes, a threatened species. First, during an annual cycle we analysed gut contents for vascular plant detritus, moss, amorphous plant material, and animal remains, and evaluated their organic content.

The distribution of the crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes, in British waters
Freshwater Biology, 1981SUMMARY. The distribution of Austropotamobius pallipes, the only freshwater crayfish indigenous to the British Isles, is examined using over 300 records collected since 1970. The majority of records are for England where crayfish are found in areas associated with base‐rich easily weathered substrata.

Growth in the crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Crustacea: Astacidae)
Freshwater Biology, 1980SUMMARY. The growth of Austropotamobius pallipes was studied in the River Ouse during 1976–78. Growth of mature crayfish (>2.5 cm carapace length) was followed by determining the relationship between the growth increment at moult and premoult carapace length, together with the frequency of moulting of different categories of crayfish.
