Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

On Authentication, Digital Signatures and Signature Laws [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The public debate arising from the introduction of signature laws in North America, Europe and elsewhere has prompted this paper. This paper analyses and compares the closely interrelated concepts of authentication, digital signatures and electronic signature laws and tries to explain and resolve some of the ambiguities. Non-trivial problems and issues

Authentic Assessment - The Right Choice for Students Studying Law?

open access: yesLegal Education Review, 2022
Law students benefit from authentic assessment. This was the clear result from a small study of the experiences of 16 law students in a new course where an assessment required them to write a research submission to a real entity. Students gained experience in undertaking a real-life task and the results were overwhelmingly positive and strongly in ...

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Authentic Interpretation of the Constitution in the Croatian Parliamentary Law

open access: yesLaw and political science, 2022
Having in mind that the authentic interpretation is an interpretation of a legal norm that, due to its ambiguity or misinterpretation in practice, is provided by the same body that enacted it, the paper examines whether Croatian parliamentary law empowers the Croatian Parliament, as a constitution-maker, for giving an authentic interpretation of the ...

Universal Conductance Fluctuations in Quantum Anomalous Hall Insulators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Universal conductance fluctuations are observed in mesoscopic quantum anomalous Hall insulators. Two distinct fluctuation patterns are identified, arising from different interference processes of bulk and chiral edge states, respectively. These findings unveil rich quantum interference phenomena in quantum anomalous Hall insulators and provide insights

Data Scraping as a Cause of Action: Limiting Use of the CFAA and Trespass in Online Copying Cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In recent years, online platforms have used claims such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (“CFAA”) and trespass to curb data scraping, or copying of web content accomplished using robots or web crawlers.

Bioinspired, Mitochondria‐Targeted Single‐Atom Nanozyme Enhances Bone Regeneration by Reprogramming Stem Cell Energy Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bioinspired nanozyme—triphenylphosphonium (TPP)‐dendritic mesoporous silica nanoparticle (DMSN)‐Fe/Cu—mimics mitochondrial complex IV and targets mitochondria to regulate cellular energy metabolism. This approach markedly boosts bone regeneration in vivo, as demonstrated by enhanced bone volume and mineral density in critical‐sized bone defects rat ...
