Generative AI—the Transgression of Technology

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article offers a systems‐theoretical analysis of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) grounded in Niklas Luhmann's sociology of technology. It addresses a central conceptual problem: How GenAI can be understood within a theoretical framework that has traditionally defined technology as a means of stabilising action through causal ...

An iterative dynamic chemical stiffness removal method for reacting flow simulations

open access: yesPropulsion and Energy
An iterative dynamic chemical stiffness removal method (IDCSR) based on quasi-steady-state approximation (QSSA) is proposed. The IDCSR method is built on a previously developed non-iterative method which has proved to work well for small timestep sizes ...

Critical Temperature to Auto-Ignition of Leaves

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architects, 1984

A Comparison of the Flow Fields Generated for Spark and Controlled Auto-ignition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Valve timing strategies aimed at producing internal exhaust gas re-circulation in a conventional spark ignition, SI, engine have recently demonstrated the ability to initiate controlled auto-ignition, CAI.

Perfluorohexanone for Clean Fire Suppression: Mechanisms, System Design, Applications, and Future Directions

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
Driven by halon and high GWP agent phase out, perfluorohexanone is increasingly deployed in enclosures such as data centers, marine machinery spaces, and industrial process lines. This review summarizes application performance, discharge and distribution design, material compatibility, and byproduct control and maps practical gaps for large volume and ...

Auto-ignition of ionic liquid fuels with hydrogen peroxide triggered by copper-containing liquid promoter

open access: yesEnergetic Materials Frontiers
Research into next-generation propellants with green fuel–oxidizer pairs to replace the currently used highly toxic hydrazine–N2O4 system has attracted widespread attention. Ionic liquids (ILs) and hydrogen peroxide have demonstrated their feasibility as

The two-stage auto-ignition of hydrocarbons and "knock" [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1938
Abstract The investigations of Townend and co-workers (1934) have revealed that the spontaneous ignition of higher paraffins in admixture with air consists in certain temperature ranges usually between 270 and 400°C., of a two-stage process, preceded by a time interval t1 prior to the appearance of a cool flame, and a subsequent ...

Fire Testing and Hazard Assessment for Flame Retardant Polymer Composites

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
Flame retardant polymer composites are now being evaluated with more than pass or fail flammability tests. Heat release, smoke, toxicity, and system‐level behavior are receiving more attention, and multi‐scale methods are being used to describe fire hazard under more realistic conditions.

Numerical Analysis of End-Gas Autoignition and Pressure Oscillation in a Downsized SI Engine Using Large Eddy Simulation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Knock and super-knock are abnormal combustion phenomena in engines, however, they are hard to study comprehensively through optical experimental methods due to their inherent destructive nature.

The Combined Effect of Gas Phase and Condensed Phase Mechanisms in Flame Retardancy of Polybutylene Succinate

open access: yesJournal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, EarlyView.
A combination of DOPO and APP flame‐retardants results in a V‐0 UL 94 rating. ABSTRACT In this study, we addressed the challenge of eliminating, during combustion, the flaming dripping behavior of polybutylene succinate flame retarded with ammonium polyphosphate, a key barrier to achieving a V‐0 rating in the UL 94 flammability test without excessive ...
