Use of Bayesian Networks for the Forensic Evaluation of Gunshot Residue

open access: yesWIREs Forensic Science, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
Bayesian Networks can help evaluate gunshot residue given activity level propositions. This review discusses the different approaches that have been taken in the past and the challenges we are facing, with recommendations for future research. ABSTRACT Gunshot residue is a common type of trace considered in forensic science.

Study on Sensitivity Differences of Critical Spontaneous Ignition Temperature between Alcohol and Hydrocarbon Fuels Based on Reaction Pathway

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this article, the critical spontaneous ignition temperature of both hydrocarbon and alcohol fuel was acquired on a constant volume combustion bomb platform by slowly heating the inner charges, and then followed by using the CHEMKIN-PRO software to ...

After the Hype: Resilience Seeking in Emerging Technology Ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of Product Innovation Management, Volume 43, Issue 5, Page 793-826, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Academic Summary Hype often helps emerging technology ecosystems gain early support for their innovative value propositions, but the initial excitement around the technology typically vanishes at some point. This decrease in excitement and support may lead some ecosystems to fail while others are resilient and recover.

Global Atmospheric Circulation Reorganization Drives Contrasting Wind Regime Changes Across Hemispheric Latitudes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Near‐surface wind regimes govern critical Earth system processes including dust mobilization, ocean mixing, and wildfire spread, yet their multi‐decadal evolution under anthropogenic forcing remains poorly constrained. Here we quantify extreme wind frequency changes (1981–2024) using ERA5‐Land reanalysis with a monthly aggregation approach ...

Effect of compression ratio and exhaust gas recirculation on spark assisted compression ignition combustion under different proportions of methanol gasoline

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Spark-assisted compression ignition (SACI) is gaining popularity as a way to help achieve carbon neutrality. While most existing research focuses on gasoline SACI, investigations on alcohol-blended fuels are scarce.

Estimating Soil Compaction Risk at Regional Scales Using Meteorological Data and Soil Spectroscopy

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 13, Page 9084-9097, 15 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Soil compaction is a significant form of soil degradation in Europe, reducing agricultural productivity, limiting carbon sequestration and increasing greenhouse gases emissions. In response, the forthcoming European Union Soil Monitoring and Resilience Law requires spatial assessment of topsoil and subsoil compaction risk at district, that is,

Selective Electrochemical NOx Reduction to N2 for Sustainable Ammonia Energy Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Selective electrochemical NOx reduction to N2 offers a promising route to mitigate combustion‐derived NOx emissions in ammonia energy systems. This Perspective links *NO‐mediated pathways, the key intermediate role of N2O, and low‐coverage limitations to the origins of limited N2 selectivity, establishing tandem catalysis and microenvironment ...
