Varifocal Meta‐Lens for Multifunctional Focusing and Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 4, 2025.
A varifocal meta‐lens enables dynamic switching between conventional focusing and non‐diffracting autofocusing beams, relying on a phase design with dual interpretations in both real space and the spatial frequency domain. By integrating a Moiré‐based tuning mechanism, the system achieves continuous focal length control in both modes.

Water‐Immersed GaP Huygens’ Meta‐Optics for Visible Structured Light Generation [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 34, September 11, 2025.
Ultrathin GaP Huygens’ metasurfaces operating in the visible regime generate structured light beams underwater, including focusing Gaussian beams, abruptly autofocusing beams, Bessel beams, and optical vortices. The platform offers enhanced fabrication tolerance and mechanical stability, establishing a robust route toward compact underwater ...

Simulation of Laser Propagation in a Plasma with a Frequency Wave Equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of this work is to perform numerical simulations of the propagation of a laser in a plasma. At each time step, one has to solve a Helmholtz equation in a domain which consists in some hundreds of millions of cells.

Autofocus for digital Fresnel holograms by use of a Fresnelet-sparsity criterion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We propose a robust autofocus method for reconstructing digital Fresnel holograms. The numerical reconstruction involves simulating the propagation of a complex wave front to the appropriate distance.

Nonparaxial accelerating Bessel-like beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A new class of nonparaxial accelerating optical waves is introduced. These are beams with a Bessel-like profile that are capable of shifting laterally along fairly arbitrary trajectories as the wave propagates in free space.

Reflection and refraction of an Airy beam at a dielectric interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Reflection and refraction of a finite-power Airy beam at the interface between two dielectric media are investigated analytically and numerically. The formulation takes into account the paraxial nature of the optical beams to derive convenient field ...

Design and control of laser micromachining workstation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The production process of miniature devices and microsystems requires the utilization of non-conventional micromachining techniques. In the past few decades laser micromachining has became micro-manufacturing technique of choice for many industrial and ...

Abruptly autofocusing vortex beams

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We generate abruptly autofocusing beams that produce vortices at the focus. We give explicit equations for the phase-only Fourier masks that generate these beams including explanations for controlling the focal distance and numerical aperture. We show experimental results for the focal distance, the vortex pattern and show that the diameter of the ...

Closed-form expressions for nonparaxial accelerating beams with pre-engineered trajectories

open access: yes, 2015
In this letter, we propose a general real-space method for the generation of nonparaxial accelerating beams with arbitrary predefined convex trajectories. Our results lead to closed-form expressions for the required phase at the input plane.
