Abruptly autofocusing circular swallowtail beams
Optics Letters, 2021In this Letter, to the best of our knowledge, we report the first experimental demonstration of a new family of autofocusing beams, circular swallowtail beams (CSBs), based on the high-order swallowtail catastrophe, which were determined by potential functions depending on the state and control parameters.

Volume holography-based abrupt autofocusing beam
Applied Optics, 2023Volume holographic elements are excellent at shaping high-quality spatial and spectral modes. Many microscopy and laser–tissue interaction applications require precise delivery of optical energy at specific sites without affecting the peripheral regions.

Autofocusing‐based phase correction
Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2018PurposePhase artifacts due to B0 inhomogeneity can severely degrade the quality of MR images. The artifacts are particularly prominent in long‐TE scans and usually appear as ghosting and blur. We propose a retrospective phase correction method based on autofocusing.

Multifocus autofocusing Airy beam
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2017We propose a multifocus autofocusing Airy beam (MAAB) by modifying the frequency spectrum of a symmetric Airy beam (SAB) with a Gaussian band elimination filter. Unlike the original SAB, there are four off-axis foci at the autofocusing plane of the MAAB. The MAAB has a better abruptly autofocusing property than the original SAB.

Autofocusing in digital holography using eigenvalues
Applied Optics, 2021A new autofocusing algorithm for digital holography is proposed based on the eigenvalues of the images reconstructed at different distances in the measurement volume. An image quality metric evaluated based on the distribution of its eigenvalues is compared in function of the reconstruction distance to identify the location of the focal plane.

Three-Airy autofocusing beams*
Chinese Physics B, 2020We numerically and experimentally demonstrate that a three-Airy autofocusing beam can be generated by superposing three deformed two-dimensional (2D) Airy beams with a triangle symmetry. When the initial angle between two wings of the deformed 2D Airy beams increases, such a three-Airy autofocusing beam exhibits that the focusing length decreases and ...

Autofocusing optical-resolution photoacoustic endoscopy
Optics Letters, 2018Photoacoustic (PA) endoscopy has the potential to diagnose early diseases in the gastrointestinal tract. For the first time, to our knowledge, we developed an autofocusing PA endoscope (AF-PAE) for the usually irregular gastrointestinal tract imaging to solve the deterioration of transverse resolution caused by the defocus scanning of the probe.

Circular Mathieu and Weber autofocusing beams
Optics Letters, 2022In this Letter, the new classes of non-paraxial autofocusing beams are introduced for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. We investigate both numerically and experimentally non-paraxial circular Mathieu and Weber autofocusing beams based on the solutions of the Helmholtz equation in elliptical and parabolic coordinates, respectively.
