Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Intraoperative Autologous Transfusion [PDF]

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings, 1985
Intraoperative autologous transfusion is a technique that was first used almost 2 centuries ago but that has realized its potential only in the past 5 years. A growing national awareness of transfusion-related morbidity, of the need for alternative blood sources, and of improved methods for red blood cell recovery has led to an increased frequency of ...

A low percentage of autologous serum can replace bovine serum to engineer human nasal cartilage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
For the generation of cell-based therapeutic products, it would be preferable to avoid the use of animal-derived components. Our study thus aimed at investigating the possibility to replace foetal bovine serum (FBS) with autologous serum (AS) for the ...

Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...
