Air-to-Air Automatic Landing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: A Quasi Time-Optimal Hybrid Strategy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
It is well known that small electric Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) suffer from low endurance problems. A possibility to extend the range of UAV missions could be to have a carrier drone with several lightweight multirotors aboard, which can take-off ...

Intelligent Sky Guardians (InSkyGuard): An Aerial Robotic Swarm for Autonomous Detection and Entrapment of Rogue Multirotors

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Intelligent Sky Guardians (InSkyGuard) is introduced as a four‐drone swarm that autonomously detects, tracks, and safely captures rogue drones using a coordinated net system. Computer vision and leader–follower control architecture enable synchronized enclosure, while integrated failsafes enhance system reliability. Validated through closed‐environment

Technical Feasibility Study of Autonomous Field Robot‐Based on‐the‐go Assessment of Soil Nutrients Using Ion‐Sensitive Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Autonomous field robots equipped with ISFET‐based sensors enable rapid, spatially resolved soil nutrient analysis directly in the field. An automated system based on the BoniRob platform is presented for standardized on‐site extraction and measurement of key macronutrients and soil pH.

A Worm‐Inspired Origami Robot with Multimodal Locomotion for Adaptive Mobility in Complex Pipeline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An origami worm‐inspired robot achieves multimodal locomotion in confined pipelines through mechatronic integration that embeds actuation, control, and communication within each origami module. Large, reversible configuration and dimensional changes enable 25 gaits synthesized by a unified framework across peristaltic, inchworm, and wheel‐rolling modes

A Funnel-Based Framework for Quantitative Safety Metric Construction and Safety-Metric-Driven Control Synthesis of Automatic Carrier Landing Systems

open access: yesAerospace
Current research on Automatic Carrier Landing Systems (ACLSs) primarily focuses on guidance and control performance metrics. However, safety metrics that quantitatively characterize the safe region of ACLSs are equally crucial for guaranteeing safe ...

A Versatile‐Designable Framework for Active and Programmable Shape‐Morphing Soft Matter Systems: From Inverse Design to Closed‐Loop Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A versatile framework integrates addressable electrothermal actuation and strain‐constraint mechanisms to construct programmable shape‐morphing soft matter systems. By combining an analytical inverse design strategy for high‐fidelity 3D surface reconstruction with deep learning‐based closed‐loop control, this approach enables zero‐energy shape locking,
