Automatic Music Timbre Indexing

2009
Music information indexing based on timbre helps users to get relevant musical data in large digital music databases. Timbre is a quality of sound that distinguishes one music instrument from another among a wide variety of instrument families and individual categories. The real use of timbre-based grouping of music is very nicely discussed in (Bregman,

Thesaurus-Based Automatic Indexing

2009
In this chapter, we present a thesaurus application in the field of text mining and more specifically automatic indexing on the set of descriptors defined by a thesaurus. We begin by presenting various definitions and a mathematical thesaurus model, and also describe various examples of real world thesauri which are used in official institutions.

An experiment in automatic indexing

American Documentation, 1965
AbstractThis report describes a method of indexing documents which is based on the assumptions, (1) that a subset of the words in a document can be an effective index to that document and, (2) that this subject can be approximated by selecting those words from the document whose frequencies are statistically unexpectedly high.

Thesaurus-based automatic book indexing

Automatic book indexing by computer

American Documentation, 1964
AbstractThis paper describes the development and evaluation of an automatic method of deriving suitable index entries from natural language text. A section of a chemistry textbook was selected as the experimental document. Both qualitative and quantitative measures were developed to evaluate quality of indexing. Evaluation of the experimental index was

Automatic Indexing of Personal Bibliographies

BioScience, 1970
A personal bibliography, as a set of references to some subject, is common enough to be found in most scientists' offices. Typically, this consists of a card file containing separate entries with at least the authors, title, source, and date of publication for each reference. Commonly, such a bibliography is an index to some body of literature although

AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT SELECTION WITHOUT INDEXING

Journal of Documentation, 1967
Given the demonstrable deficiencies of indexing and indexes as means of document analysis and selection, a system is proposed which matches uncondensed and unanalysed texts with search requests and semantically equivalent transformations derived from them.

A blueprint for automatic indexing

ACM SIGIR Forum, 1981
This note summarizes some of the currently available insights in automatic indexing. The emphasis is on aspects that are expected to be useful in practical automatic indexing applications. The discussion is necessarily cursory, but the references will lead interested readers to a deeper treatment of the indexing problem.
