Improving release-consistent shared virtual memory using automatic update

Proceedings. Second International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture, 2002
Shared virtual memory is a software technique to provide shared memory on a network of computers without special hardware support. Although several relaxed consistency models and implementations are quite effective, there is still a considerable performance gap between the "software-only" approach and the hardware approach that uses directory-based ...

Automatic object release in magnetic and electrostatic levitation systems

Precision Engineering, 2009
A method is described for automatic release of a levitated object without external control commands in levitation systems (such as magnetic and electrostatic levitation). The key aspect is an integral action in the controller. Examples of a zero-power controller for magnetic levitation and a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for ...

Automatic planning of UMTS release 4.0 networks using realistic traffic

2010 IEEE International Symposium on "A World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks" (WoWMoM), 2010
Since Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks are very expensive to deploy, network optimization is an important issue for service providers to remain competitive. As a result, this paper proposes a new mathematical programming model in order to plan UMTS Release 4.0 networks.

Risk Minimization when Perforating with Automatic Gun Release Systems

SPETT 2012 Energy Conference and Exhibition, 2012
Abstract Each month thousands of perforating jobs are executed without problems; however, certain wells are susceptible to gunshock damage if they are perforated with inappropriate gun systems. This paper presents the application of a simulation program that predicts perforating gunshock loads reliably. This simulation program enables us

An automatic-release piston for use in piston coring

Marine Geology, 1970
Abstract An automatic-release piston has been developed to replace the conventional fixed piston/wire combination used in Kullenberg-type corers. At the end of penetration of the corer into the sediment this piston breaks into two parts. The actual piston is jammed in place by spring-actuated barbs that are pressed into the P.V.C. core liner.

Lateral flow assay with automatic signal amplification based on delayed substrate release

Talanta
The low sensitivity of Lateral flow assay (LFA) limits its application in rapid detection for trace targets. LFAs with nanozyme (nanozyme-LFA) as signal labels have demonstrated excellent performance in point of care testing (POCT). However, additional operational steps for substrate catalysis in nanozyme LFA are required, which makes the nanozyme-LFA ...

Efficacy of sustained-release verapamil: automatic ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Journal of clinical hypertension, 1987
The potential antihypertensive effect of sustained-release (SR) verapamil was compared to immediate-release (IR) verapamil in a group of patients with essential hypertension. All patients were withdrawn from their previous antihypertensive medication(s) and were entered into an open-label IR verapamil study (dose varying from 80 to 120 mg TID ...
