Minimum time-energy trajectory planning for automatic ship berthing
IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1995A ship optimal trajectory planning method based on the dynamic model of the ship is presented. First a mathematical modular model is introduced for describing the non-linear dynamics of the ship. Then the problem of optimal trajectory planning is discussed.

In this paper, the authors discuss a fully automatic berthing system and actual tests using a small training ship, Shioji Maru. The ship is about 440 gross tonnage and furnished with a controllable pitch propeller, a bow thruster and a stern thruster to which a computer can easily be linked.
