Automobile ownership in Yugoslavia

Transportation Research Part A: General, 1990
This paper presents an analysis of automobile ownership in urban households of the six Yugoslav republics and for the years 1973, 1978, and 1983. The analysis is based on a simple dichotomous probit model, the only explanatory variable being household income. The model proved to be adequate in describing the empirical data.

This paper develops a conjectural variation model that allows for partial ownership arrangements and foreign trade. This model is applied to the Japanese and US automobile industries. Although collusion is found to occur in the Japanese automobile industry, it is found to be more competitive than the US automobile industry.
