Optimized Protocol for the Isolation of UHMWPE Wear Debris by Lyophilization and Chemometric Identification (EDS/PCA)

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
An optimized protocol combining serum lyophilization, solid‐state alkaline digestion, and PCA‐assisted EDS analysis was validated for the analysis of UHMWPE wear debris. The method increased recovery yield by 20‐fold compared to liquid digestion and preserved particle morphology.

Short‐Term Oral Spermidine Supplementation Modifies Aspects of Neurodegenerative Disease in Flies and Mice With MPS III

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Mucopolysaccharidosis type III (MPS III) is a group of autosomal recessive neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorders that causes progressive cognitive and physical impairment, predominantly in child/early adulthood. The median age of death is 17 years as there is no safe, effective treatment approved.

Collective Autoscaling for Cloud Microservices

open access: yes, 2021
As cloud applications shift from monoliths to loosely coupled microservices, application developers must decide how many compute resources (e.g., number of replicated containers) to assign to each microservice within an application. This decision affects both (1) the dollar cost to the application developer and (2) the end-to-end latency perceived by ...

ML-Based Autoscaling for Elastic Cloud Applications: Taxonomy, Frameworks, and Evaluation

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications
Elastic cloud systems are increasingly employing machine learning (ML) to automate resource scaling in response to variable workloads and stringent service-level objectives. However, current ML-based autoscalers are fragmented across different platforms,

Volatilomic Differentiation of Protected‐Origin Italian Balsamic Vinegars by HS‐SPME‐GC×GC‐TOFMS

open access: yesJournal of Separation Science, Volume 49, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Balsamic vinegars produced under Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) schemes differ substantially in raw materials, processing intensity, and aging regimes. Although these differences are expected to shape their volatile composition, a comprehensive chemical characterization capable of reliably ...

Towards Yo-Yo attack mitigation in cloud auto-scaling mechanism

open access: yesDigital Communications and Networks, 2020
Cloud platforms could automatically scale underlying network resources up and down in response to changes in the traffic load. Such an auto-scaling mechanism can largely enhance the elasticity and scalability of cloud platforms. However, it may introduce

Self-adaptive trade-off decision making for autoscaling cloud-based services [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elasticity in the cloud is often achieved by on-demand autoscaling. In such context, the goal is to optimize the Quality of Service (QoS) and cost objectives for the cloud-based services. However, the difficulty lies in the facts that these objectives, e.

Multi‐Decadal Trends in the Low Latitude foF2 Driven by Secular Magnetic Variations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Long‐term ionospheric trends have been widely studied, but their origin and magnitude remain subjects of debate. This study quantifies the linear trend in the F2‐region critical frequency (foF2) and its local time dependence using observations from eight low‐latitude ionosonde stations.
