Mesophilic Aeration of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobically Digested Biosolids To Improve Plant Operations

Water Environment Research, 2000
Autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD) has been observed to exhibit a greater polymer demand for acceptable biosolids dewatering when compared with conventional mesophilic aerobic digestion. Field studies indicated that an increase in thermophilic detention time promoted the release of proteins and polysaccharides from the biosolids to the ...

Capturing Uncertainties for Sustainable Operation of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion Systems

2014
Abstract This study deals with a problem for the sustainable operation of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) systems. The problem is presented as a design of heat integrated batch processes under uncertainties. Heat integration framework is defined and a respective mathematical model is discussed.

The influence of factors on dewaterability of one-stage autothermal thermophilic aerobically digested sludges

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2013
One-stage auto thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD) could achieve the same sludge stabilization efficiency as two- or multi-stage ATAD process does. However, the dewaterability of sludge might be affected through thermophilic digestion because of the release of intracellular substances under the thermophilic temperatures. This paper investigated which

Energy Efficiency Advancements in Wastewater Treatment – Study of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion

2009
Abstract Several researchers have identified the need to and the optimum operating conditions (OCs) of autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD). Our main hypothesis is that the optimum operating conditions have the potential to significantly improve the specific energy requirements of ATAD systems, and perhaps even to increase their capacity.

Impacts of ammonia nitrogen on autothermal thermophilic micro-aerobic digestion for sewage sludge treatment

Chemosphere, 2018
The concentration of ammonia nitrogen is relatively high during autothermal thermophilic micro-aerobic digestion (ATMAD), which could significantly affect the sludge stabilization. This paper aims to investigate the impacts of ammonia nitrogen on ATMAD process, batch experiments were carried out with dosage of certain amount of NH4HCO3 into digestion ...

Microbial ecology of autothermal thermophilic aerobic digester (ATAD) systems for treating waste activated sludge

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2011
Despite their widespread use, our understanding of the microbial ecology of the autothermal thermophilic aerobic digesters (ATAD) used to dispose of sludge from wastewater treatment plants is poor. Applying both culture-dependent and molecular methods to two ATAD systems in Victoria, Australia treating different wastewaters revealed that their ...

Effect of Biopolymer on the Dewatering Characteristics of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion of Sludges

Water Environment Research, 2006
Autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion of sludge is known to produce poorly dewatering sludges. Laboratory studies were conducted to investigate the reasons for the poor dewatering. It was found that, during digestion, proteins and polysaccharides were released into solution, and that these could be linked to the deterioration in dewatering.

Conversion of poultry litter into class A biosolids using autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion

Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, 2016
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to minimize environmental problems related to raw poultry manure application by stabilizing its nutrient and organic matter (OM) content. This can be achieved by prior digestion before its application to agricultural soils.

The Study of Sludge Characteristics for One-Stage Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion Process

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
One-stage Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion was autonomously designed to treat municipal sludges. By the way of batch operation experiment, the influence of removal rates of volatile suspended solids(VSS), total suspended solids(TSS), auto-rise temperature, and COD concentration, volatile fatty acid concentration of sludge, were investigated ...

Optimizing Dewatering of Biosolids from Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digesters (ATAD) Using Inorganic Conditioners

Water Environment Research, 2000
Biosolids obtained through the autothermal thermophilic aerobic digestion (ATAD) process exhibit greater polymer demand for dewatering than those obtained through conventional mesophilic aerobic digestion processes. An increase in ATAD retention time and operating temperature resulted in an increase in proteins and polysaccharides in solution, and this
