Strain‐Adaptive Dielectric Metamaterials via Bioinspired “Ligament‐Bone” Architecture for Ultrahigh‐Energy Capacitive Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioinspired strain‐adaptive ligament‐bone architecture achieves record‐high energy density of 26.1 J cm−3 and 90% efficiency at 600 MV m−1, coupled with a Young's modulus of 2.13 GPa. ABSTRACT Polymer dielectrics for capacitive energy storage face fundamental trade‐offs between breakdown strength, energy density, efficiency, and mechanical robustness.

Nowcasting Avalanches as Earthquakes and the Predictability of Strong Avalanches in the Olami-Feder-Christensen Model

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Nowcasting earthquakes, suggested recently as a method to estimate the state of a fault and hence the seismic risk, is based on the concept of natural time.

Efficient Hot Carrier Management in Lead Halide Perovskite Micro‐Disks Revealed by Super‐Diffusive Migration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hot‐carrier transport in metal halide perovskites is investigated using spatiotemporally‐resolved photoluminescence microscopy. Mesa‐shaped MAPbBr3 microdisks exhibit anomalous super‐diffusive carrier propagation on nanosecond timescales, driven by hot‐carrier stabilization and strong carrier–phonon coupling.

Photoresponse Properties of Ambipolar Transport in WSe2 Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the photoresponse of WSe2 ambipolar field‐effect transistors, which exhibit unipolar, saturation, and ambipolar transport regions. Light illumination induces a shift of critical voltage with enhanced photocurrent generation driven by the photogating effect without the material degradation seen in avalanche photodetectors. This study

Artificial intelligence and health empowerment in rural communities and landslide- or avalanche-isolated contexts: real case at a fictitious location

open access: yesFrontiers in Digital Health
Through a series of case studies, we have pretested the capabilities and reliability of the Large Language Models (LLM), Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 (GPT-4) and OpenAI o3 reasoning model (o3) in educational and healthcare contexts. Based on this

Comments on avalanche flow models based on the concept of random kinetic energy

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2018
In a series of papers, Bartelt and co-workers developed novel snow-avalanche models in which random kinetic energy (RKE) RK (a.k.a. granular temperature) is a key concept.

In‐Sensor Computing by Soft Threshold Logic Gates Under Different Humidity Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Soft nanocomposite materials, based on gold cluster‐assembled thin films implanted in polydimethylsiloxane substrate, can perform reliable processing in ambient environmental conditions. Humidity influences the resistive switching and computational capabilities of the nanocomposites, that can be used as multifunctional material combining sensing ...

Deriving seasonal and annual surface mass balance for debris-covered glaciers from flow-corrected satellite stereo DEM time series

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Glaciers in High-Mountain Asia are experiencing varying rates and patterns of mass loss due to a complex interplay between glacier surface processes, local conditions and climate forcing.

Formation of Light‐Emitting Defects in Ag‐Based Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
How does a memristor begin to emit light‐before it even conducts? This work reveals that nanoscale silver clusters form, diffuse, and aggregate during activation, driving early photoluminescence ahead of current flow. Linking these precursor dynamics to later electroluminescence, it uncovers the origins of light emission and enables precise control of ...

Verification and Mitigation of Proton‐Induced Non‐Ionizing Damage in Perovskite Solar Cells for Space Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐halide perovskite solar cells offer high‐efficiency power for orbital missions but suffer from permanent proton‐induced degradation. This work identifies non‐ionizing energy loss (NIEL) as the primary driver of irreversible failure, inducing atomic displacements and microcracks in the high‐fluence regime. Through energy‐tuned mapping and scalable
