ImageJ software as an alternative method for estimating leaf area in oats
The aim of this study was to compare two methods of estimating leaf area (leaf area meter LI-COR 3100 and ImageJ software) in oats. Renascem black oats and UTF Iguaçu white oats cultivars were evaluated.

Carbon and nitrogen release from cover crop roots is poorly predicted by their chemical composition
Abstract Root‐derived carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) release in relation to chemical composition has rarely been quantified in field studies. The objectives of this study were to evaluate C and N release from six summer cover crop roots and to correlate it with their chemical composition. Root decomposition and N release from velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima),

Genetic diversity of Avena strigosa Schreb. ecotypes on the basis of isoenzyme markers
Genetic diversity of Avena strigosa Schreb. ecotypes on the basis of isoenzyme markers Genetic diversity was analyzed in 19 ecotypes of the diploid oat A. strigosa originating from various geographical regions of the world. Six isoenzyme systems (AAT, ACP, EST, LAP, MDH, PX) were studied and 16 loci were identified.

Integrating fall‐planted cereal cover crops with herbicides for weed control in dry edible beans
Abstract Field experiments were conducted in Parma and Kimberly, ID, in 2023 and 2024 to determine weed suppression by fall‐planted small grain cover crops in dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Cover crops included barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), triticale (Triticosecale wittmack L.), and winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), and these treatments were ...

Back to the future: Using ancient Bere barley landraces for a sustainable future
Bere is an ancient barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) that was once widely grown in northern Britain, where its ability to grow on poor soils and under challenging climatic conditions made it a valuable staple. By the end of the 20th century, Bere had largely been replaced by higher‐yielding modern varieties and only survived in cultivation on a few Scottish ...

ABSTRACT Cover crops (CCs) can help reduce soil erosion and promote nutrient cycling, and certain species are efficient phosphorus (P) miners. Upon incorporation into the soil, CCs biomass undergoes microbial mineralisation, releasing bioavailable P, potentially benefiting subsequent crops. However, the effects of the incorporation of single CC species
