Impact of standard rate of VAT on tax mix in EU 27

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2012
The Value Added Tax (VAT) is one of the key resources within tax collection and therefore VAT effectiveness and VAT complexity represent one of the current world topics.

Environmental averaging

open access: yesEMS Surveys in Mathematical Sciences
Many classical examples of models of self-organized dynamics, including the Cucker–Smale, Motsch–Tadmor, multi-species, and several others, include an alignment force that is based upon density-weighted averaging protocol. Those protocols can be viewed as special cases of “environmental averaging”.

Parameterized TSP: Beating the Average [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP), we are given a complete graph $K_n$ together with an integer weighting $w$ on the edges of $K_n$, and we are asked to find a Hamilton cycle of $K_n$ of minimum weight.

Learning-based Ensemble Average Propagator Estimation

open access: yes, 2017
By capturing the anisotropic water diffusion in tissue, diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) provides a unique tool for noninvasively probing the tissue microstructure and orientation in the human brain.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Biological Control of Aquatic Weeds by Grass Carp in Kelvin River (Scotland)

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 1999
Biological control of aquatic weeds has raised much interest because of the sudden and often short-lasting effects of mechanical and chemical controls.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

The Better-Than-Average Effect Is Observed Because “Average” Is Often Construed as Below-Median Ability

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Most people rate their abilities as better than “average” even though it is statistically impossible for most people to have better-than-median abilities. Some investigators explained this phenomenon in terms of a self-enhancement bias. The present study

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Asymptotics for sliced average variance estimation

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we systematically study the consistency of sliced average variance estimation (SAVE). The findings reveal that when the response is continuous, the asymptotic behavior of SAVE is rather different from that of sliced inverse regression (SIR)
