Abstract A simple and fast algorithm for image referencing of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) data has been derived to facilitate the identification of geographic co-ordinates corresponding to any pixel on an NOAA image and vice versa.

Operational AVHRR navigation results
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2000A navigation method that combine a precise image deformation model and an automatic adjustment on coastal landmarks is operationally used at the CMS on AVHRR imagery. This paper presents the principles of the method, the error sources and a detailed analysis of the results obtained in 1996-1997 with NOAA-14 and NOAA-12 images.

Intercalibration of AVHRR and ATSR data
Advances in Space Research, 1996Abstract The characterization of the AVHRR and ATSR instrument's relative performances and the intercalibration of their data products has been carried out. The intercalibration of two different infrared sensors shall be planned as an operational exercise in the future with automatic software tools.

Navigation of coastal AVHRR images
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1992Abstract This paper describes a simple, computationally inexpensive procedure for automatically identifying coastal features in an unnotified, unregistered daytime image. The procedure can be used to identify ground control points for image registration and to provide a local correction for the navigation predicted from the satellite orbit parameters ...

Calibration of the NOAA 10 AVHRR
Remote Sensing of Environment, 1988Information supplied to me concerning the calibration of the NOAA 10 AVHRR (Price, 1988) was faulty. As with the preceding instruments, the NOAA 10 equivalent albedo coefficients were based on Thekaekara's values of the solar constant. The corrected values for Table 1 are, for Channel 1: Equivalent Solar Radiance = 499., a = .528, 13 = - 17.6, and for ...

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The NOAA/NESDIS Office of Research and Applications (ORA) has embarked on a pilot data stewardship project aimed at improving the data record from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). One part of this larger project includes the generation of a new cloud climatology from the Extended AVHRR Pathfinder Atmospheres (PATMOS-x) data set.

NOAA/AVHRR Bidirectional Reflectance
Remote Sensing of Environment, 1999Abstract In this article, bidirectional effects on NOAA/AVHRR short wavelength data were analyzed for the regional monitoring of the temperate pine ( Pinus pinaster ) Landes forest. Because of differences in soil hydrologic characteristics, the forest is described by five ecotypes, which determine the understorey type and the potential for pine ...

Multidimensional analysis method for NOAA AVHRR images
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1994As a fundamental study of multiple image processing, the authors have developed a new technique for the analysis of multispectral remote sensing data. Though the basis of the authors' algorithm is similar to a histogram analysis, they have proposed a novel way of the representation of multidimensional image data, which facilitates a nonexpert to locate

Automatic Adjustment of AVHRR Navigation
Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 1992Abstract An automatic adjustment method of the Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images navigation has been developed for operational use at the Centre de Meteorologic Spatiale (CMS) in Lannion, France. Selected coastal landmarks are correlated with small windows of an actual AVHRR image using visible and near-infrared channels 1 and 2 ...

Comparison of Turbidity Measurement by MODIS and AVHRR Images
2008 Fifth International Conference on Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation, 2008The turbidity is commonly measured by turbidity meter. However, it is only accurate for single point measurement but ineffective for wide spatial and temporal coverage. The objective of this study was to calibrate the turbidity algorithm for AVHRR and MODIS images.
