An AVHRR mosaic image of Antarctica

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1989
Abstract This project was started in October 1985 with the objectives of (1) producing a 1 km-resolution database of Antarctica and (2) producing a 1:5 000000 scale image map. So far, 28 three-band AVHRR scenes have been corrected for variable Sun reflectance and transformed to a polar stereographic projection using a digitized coastline for control ...

The ATOVS and AVHRR product processing facility of EPS

Advances in Space Research, 2005
Abstract An overview on the Product Processing Facility (PPF) for the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the Advanced TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder (ATOVS) instrument suite in the Core Ground Segment of the EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) is presented. The PPF processing will include handling of instrument data from both, Metop and

Cloud Detection Using AVHRR Data

1996
The split-window facility offered by the AVHRR instrument is used to good purpose in an advanced cloud detection and analysis package called APOLLO. This is based on threshold tests to distinguish between cloud-free, fully-cloudy and partially-cloudy pixels over land and sea surfaces.

Improving the AVHRR’s BRDF correction using MODIS

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
The Long Term Data Record (LTDR) has the goal of developing a quality and consistent AVHRR surface reflectance product using the MODIS instrument as a reference. When a surface reflectance time series is acquired from satellites with variable observation geometry, the directional variation generates an apparent noise which can be corrected by modeling ...

Evaluation of NOAA-AVHRR data for crop assessment

Applied Optics, 1982
A study has been carried out in order to determine the angular limits which should be imposed upon NOAA06 and -7 satellite advanced very high-resolution radiometer (AVHRR) data used in vegetation assessment. The study involved simulations of anticipated sensor output over a wheat crop and empirical investigation of sensor data over vegetated areas. The

NOAA AVHRR workstation software

IEEE 1999 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. IGARSS'99 (Cat. No.99CH36293), 2003
A software package for carrying out the whole NOAA AVHRR data processing chain has been developed. This includes image data extraction, radiometric calibration and geometric corrections. The software supports three different raw file formats. Radiometric corrections include both atmospheric- and BRDF-conections.

NDVI analysis in Korea with NOAA AVHRR images

Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005
In North Korea, the shortage of food has been a serious problem for the past several years. However, the actual condition of present North Korea cannot be investigated there. Then, it analyzes about the food situation of North Korea from a viewpoint of vegetation using the remote sensing technology using the satellite.

One of the variants of the algorithm of cloud detection (regionally adapted to the Black Sea) on AVHRR images is described. The threshold algorithms using the features of ascending radiation formation in various spectral intervals are taken as a basis.

Correlation of AVHRR SST with the presence of loggerhead turtles

IGARSS 2003. 2003 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37477), 2004
The Mid-Atlantic serves as a host environment for a number of sea turtle species that encompasses their seasonal migration routes. Global evidence suggests that that the migration routes are strongly influenced by two factors: sea surface temperature and chlorophyll concentrations.
