Ubiquitin in avian leukosis virus particles

open access: yesVirology, 1990
We have identified unconjugated ubiquitin as a component of avian leukosis virus (ALV). Quantitation both by immunoblotting and by protein staining showed that ubiquitin makes up about 0.5% of total viral protein, corresponding to 100 molecules per virion. This level is about fivefold higher than the level of unconjugated ubiquitin in the cytosol, when

The Novel Avian Leukosis Virus Subgroup K Shares Its Cellular Receptor with Subgroup A

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
ALV consists of several subgroups that are particularly characterized by their receptor usage, which subsequently dictates the host range and tropism of the virus.

Retroviral Infections Affect Survival and Clutch Size of Female Wild Turkeys

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We investigated the effects of two oncogenic retroviruses, lymphoproliferative disease virus (LPDV) and reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV), on survival and reproduction of wild turkeys in Maine. REV infection reduced female annual survival by nearly half, while LPDV‐infected hens laid fewer eggs, though other reproductive metrics were unaffected.

Hamster leukemia virus: lack of endogenous DNA synthesis and unique structure of its DNA polymerase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Infectious hamster leukemia virus (HaLV) contains a DNA polymerase different from those of murine and avian viruses. No endogenous reaction directed by the 60 to 70S RNA of HaLV could be demonstrated in detergenttreated HaLV virions, nor could the ...

Differential cytokine responses following Marek's disease virus infection in chicken genotypes differing in resistance to Marek's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The production of cytokine mRNAs, in addition to viral DNA, was quantified by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) (cytokines) or PCR (virus) in splenocytes during the course of Marek's disease virus (MDV) infection in four inbred ...

Co-infection with avian hepatitis E virus and avian leukosis virus subgroup J as the cause of an outbreak of hepatitis and liver hemorrhagic syndromes in a brown layer chicken flock in China

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
Hens of a commercial Hy-line brown layer flock in China exhibited increased mortality and decreased egg production at 47 wk of age. From 47 to 57 wk, average weekly mortality increased from 0.11 to 3.0%, and egg production decreased from 10 to 30%, with ...

The Complement-fixation Test for Avian Leukosis

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1968
Summary Sera from hamsters bearing tumours induced by the Schmidt-Ruppin strain of Rous sarcoma virus (sr-RSV) contain antibodies to the avian leukosis group specific antigen and an antigen of chick origin. The ‘chick embryo antigen’ is found in chick embryos infected and uninfected with avian leukosis viruses and in chicken tumours induced by avian ...

Protease‐mediated maturation of M‐PMV reverse transcriptase into a functional heterodimer

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Reverse transcriptase (RT) of retroviruses orchestrates viral replication, yet its structural diversity remains poorly understood. Well‐studied RTs, such as those from HIV‐1, murine leukemia virus, and avian myeloblastosis virus, were characterized decades ago, but less prominent retroviruses have escaped detailed analysis.

Endogenous expression of ASLV viral proteins in specific pathogen free chicken embryos: relevance for the developmental biology research field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background The use of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) eggs in combination with RCAS retrovirus, a member of the Avian Sarcoma-Leukosis Virus (ASLV) family, is of standard practice to study gene function and development.
