A novel subgroup of exogenous avian leukosis virus in chickens
An avian leukosis virus with a wide host range belonging to a new subgroup for chickens was isolated from meat-type chicken lines. The virus, of which HPRS-103 strain is the prototype, was of low oncogenicity in chickens but appeared to behave like an exogenous leukosis virus.

Objective: Since 100 years ago, the avian leukosis virus (ALV) was discovered but has remained a threat to poultry production globally, inducing neoplastic diseases of different pathotypes, immu¬nosuppression, growth retardation, and a drop in egg ...

Reduced mortality: The isolated LY2021J strain of ALV‐J from Hetian chickens showed lower mortality despite causing severe dysplasia. Genetic similarity: LY2021J exhibited high genetic similarity to the Chinese Heilongjiang strain JS14NT01, particularly in the gp85 and pol genes, suggesting a possible common origin.

ABSTRACT Background Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a type of cancer of the respiratory tract that often presents with subtle symptoms at the early stage and is susceptible to recurrence and metastasis. Materials and Methods To find out key regulatory genes involved in LSCC development, we downloaded LSCC‐related sequencing datasets for ...

Tropical Sufficient Statistics for Persistent Homology [PDF]
We show that an embedding in Euclidean space based on tropical geometry generates stable sufficient statistics for barcodes. In topological data analysis, barcodes are multiscale summaries of algebraic topological characteristics that capture the `shape' of data; however, in practice, they have complex structures that make them difficult to use in ...

Abstract We report on a previously healthy zoo specimen of an adult budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus, obtained with permission from Southwick's Zoo) found deceased in its enclosure. To assess cause of death and ensure the absence of an infectious neoplasia, we used an integrated multiscale brain‐imaging workflow, previously only used on mammals. The

Abstract Zoonoses constitute a major risk to human health. Comprehensive assessments on the potential emergence of novel disease outbreaks are essential to ensure the effectiveness of sanitary controls and to establish mitigating actions. Through a continental‐scale survey of rural human settlements conducted over 13 years in 15 Neotropical countries ...

Host-feeding preferences and temperature shape the dynamics of West Nile virus: a mathematical model of assessing the abatement planning [PDF]
West Nile virus (WNV) is prevalent in the United States but it shows considerable divergence in transmission patterns and spatio-temporal intensity. It is to be noted that the mechanism that drives the transmission potential of WNV is described by the abilities of host species to maintain and disseminate the pathogens pertinent with different eco ...

Osteosarcoma of the wing in a sulfur‐crested cockatoo
Abstract A 26‐year‐old female sulfur‐crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) was evaluated for vocalizing through the night and extending her right wing. Physical examination revealed a large, firm mass extending from the humerus to the distal aspect of the elbow.

PCR Based Evidence of Reticuloendotheliosis Virus Infection in Chickens from Turkey [PDF]
In this study, presence of avian leukosis virus (ALV) and reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) was investigated in neoplastic cases observed in breeder hens older than 20 weeks in commercial broiler breeders. Tumor samples were examined by PCR combined with
