Lunar Dayside Surface Potentials in the Terrestrial Magnetotail Inferred From Comparing Observed and Modeled Photoelectrons

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract As an airless body, the lunar surface is charged as a result of balancing electric currents into and away from the surface. Lunar surface charging is important for both scientific and human‐exploration purposes. The nightside surface charging has been well characterized by previous studies, but less so for the dayside.

Data‐driven simulation of crude distillation using Aspen HYSYS and comparative machine learning models

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 8, Page 4079-4100, August 2026.
Integrated Aspen HYSYS–machine learning framework for predicting product yields and quality variables. Abstract Crude oil refining is a complex process requiring precise modelling to optimize yield, quality, and efficiency. This study integrates Aspen HYSYS® simulations with machine learning techniques to develop predictive models for key refinery ...

Altered Evening Aperiodic Activity and Microstate Dynamics in Insomnia Disorder: An OPM MEG Study

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Using wearable OPM‐MEG, this study characterized evening and morning resting state neurophysiology in insomnia disorder. A flatter evening aperiodic spectral exponent suggested relatively elevated cortical excitability, alongside altered microstate dynamics involving putative limbic and sensorimotor network states.

Making Sense of the Bioeconomy: A Critical Analysis of EU Policy Narratives and Responses

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 1049-1064, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The bioeconomy has become an increasingly popular concept in European Union (EU) policy, promising sustainable growth, job creation, and reduced environmental impacts. Yet its meaning remains contested, ambiguous, and politically charged. This study critically examines how EU bioeconomy policy narratives prior to 2025 construct this concept ...

DNA barcoding for identification of species involved in wildlife strikes at Brazilian airports

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
A collaborative network of 42 Brazilian airports applied DNA barcoding to identify 80 species involved in wildlife strikes. Among them, 32 species (17 birds and 15 bats) were not currently available in Brazil's wildlife strike reporting database, underscoring the value of molecular tools for strengthening wildlife strike monitoring. Abstract This study
