Sinanthropic avifauna: an introduction.
In the present contribution the importance of qualitative and quantitative approach in the realization of Italian urban ornithological atlases is discussed. The importance of these atlases as tools for the investigation of urban biodiversity is also highlighted.

Species diversity typically increases from higher to lower latitudes, but the regional‐scale variation along this geographic gradient remains unclear. It has been suggested that species diversity throughout Amazonia generally increases westward toward the Andes, but this pattern and its environmental determinants require further investigation for most ...

Avian malaria in birds from Atlantic Rainforest: a record of Plasmodium cathemerium and other novel lineages [PDF]
Parasitic diseases, like avian malaria, play a relevant impact on wild avifauna around the world, putting a threat to biodiversity, principally in endemic zones.

Functional distinctiveness and rarity highlight climate vulnerability of mountain birds
Abstract The loss of both functionally distinct and geographically restricted (i.e., rare) species can limit the capacity of ecological communities to respond to ongoing environmental changes. Mountains, which harbor high biodiversity and unique species, are particularly vulnerable to rapidly shifting climate conditions and remain understudied compared

An Attempt to Update a Checklist and Some Other Aspects of Murree Hills’ Avifauna
Birds are vital component of biodiversity as they are playing a significant role in an ecosystem. Increasing human interference might have affected previously reported diversity of birds.

Molecular characterization of Trichomonas gallinae isolates recovered from the Canadian Maritime provinces’ wild avifauna reveals the presence of the genotype responsible for the European finch trichomonosis epidemic and additional strains [PDF]
Finch trichomonosis, caused by Trichomonas gallinae, emerged in the Canadian Maritime provinces in 2007 and has since caused ongoing mortality in regional purple finch (Carpodacus purpureus) and American goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) populations ...

Seasonal variation in wild pig (Sus scrofa) diet revealed by DNA metabarcoding
Using DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples, we investigated the diet of wild pigs at an extensive bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem within Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Arkansas. We found that wild pig diet was highly diverse and included at least 74 plant families and 106 genera and 23 species of vertebrates.

AbstractA total of 3,248 individuals of 51 species were observed in the Geumo Archipelago (Geumodo, Ando, Yeondo) in Yeosu, Jeollanamdo in two rounds of study conducted from June to September 2008. The dominant species was Larus crassirostris with 1,145 individuals (35.25%) followed by Hirundo rustica with 385 individuals (11.85%), Paradoxornis ...

Dissecting the species–energy relationship [PDF]
Environmental energy availability can explain much of the spatial variation in species richness. Such species–energy relationships encompass a diverse range of forms, and there is intense debate concerning which of these predominate, and the factors ...
