Quantifying Flow Velocities in River Deltas via Remotely Sensed Suspended Sediment Concentration

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Deltas are fragile ecosystems threatened by sea‐level rise, sediment starvation, and subsidence. Erosional/depositional processes in these systems mainly depend on the sediment supply and the spatial divergence in bed shear stress induced by hydrodynamic

Imaging Spectroscopy‐Based Estimation of Aboveground Biomass in Louisiana's Coastal Wetlands: Toward Consistent Spectroscopic Retrievals Across Atmospheric States

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 129, Issue 9, September 2024.
Abstract Developing accurate landscape‐scale aboveground biomass (AGB) maps is critical to understanding coastal deltaic wetland resilience, as AGB influences stability and elevation dynamics in herbaceous wetlands. Here we used AVIRIS‐NG imaging spectrometer (or “hyperspectral”) data from NASA's 2021 Delta‐X mission in coastal Louisiana to map ...

Mapping and quantifying methane emissions from local sources using airborne imaging spectrometers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Most of the existing techniques for detecting, quantifying, and attributing point source emissions of methane (CH4) have relied on ground-based measurements.

Aerosol‐Calibrated Matched Filter Method for Retrievals of Methane Point Source Emissions Over the Los Angeles Basin

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 8, August 2024.
Abstract Methane, with a global warming potential roughly 86 times greater than carbon dioxide over a 20‐year timeframe, plays a crucial role in global warming. Remote sensing retrieval is a pivotal methodology for identifying methane emission sources, with accuracy influenced largely by surface and atmospheric properties, including aerosols.

High‐resolution spectral data predict taxonomic diversity in low diversity grasslands

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 5, Issue 3, July–September 2024.
We tested the spectral variance hypothesis (SVH) in a heterogeneous, species‐rich system using high‐resolution hyperspectral imagery. Our findings indicate that the correlation between spectral and taxonomic diversity varies with spatial resolution and is context‐dependent, particularly in recently burned areas dominated by C3 grasses.

Scientific and Technical Assistance for the Deployment of a Flexible Airborne Spectrometer System During C-MAPExp and COMEX [PDF]

open access: yes
The COMEX (CO2 and MEthane eXperiment) campaign supports the mission definition of CarbonSat and HyspIRI (Hyperspectral Infrared Imager) by providing representative airborne remote sensing data MAMAP (Methane Airborne MAPper) for CarbonSat; the Airborne

Evaluation of PRISMA Products Over Snow in the Alps and Antarctica

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract PRISMA is a hyperspectral satellite mission launched by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) in April 2019. The mission is designed to collect data at global scale for a variety of applications, including those related to the cryosphere. This study presents an evaluation of PRISMA Level 1 (L1) and Level 2 (L2D) products for different snow conditions.

DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE SPECTRAL AND MACHINE LEARNING METHODS FOR MINERAL AND LITHOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION USING MULTI-SENSOR DATASETS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The sustainable exploration of mineral resources plays a significant role in the economic development of any nation. The lithological maps and surface mineral distribution can be vital baseline data to narrow down the geochemical and geophysical analysis

Unveiling Unprecedented Methane Hotspots in China's Leading Coal Production Hub: A Satellite Mapping Revelation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 51, Issue 10, 28 May 2024.
Abstract China is likely the world's largest anthropogenic source of methane emissions, with coal mine methane (CMM) being the predominant contributor. Here, we deploy 2 years of satellite observations to survey facility‐level CMM emitters in Shanxi, the most prolific coal mining province in China.
