An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light
Advanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors for Probing Free Radical Biology
Advanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.Free radicals play key roles in cellular signaling and disease but remain difficult to measure in living systems. Nanodiamonds (NDs) with nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers enable quantum sensing of local magnetic noise via T₁ relaxometry, providing nondestructive radical detection in living cells.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy
Advanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.
