Electroacupuncture-Assisted Craniotomy on an Awake Patient

open access: yesJournal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies, 2017
Although acupuncture has existed for over 2000 years, its application as an anesthetic aid began in the 1950s in China. The first surgical procedure performed under acupuncture anesthesia was a tonsillectomy. Soon thereafter, major and minor surgical procedures took place with electroacupuncture alone providing the anesthesia.

Senescent Endothelial Cells in Cerebral Microcirculation Are Key Drivers of Age‐Related Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption, Microvascular Rarefaction, and Neurovascular Coupling Impairment in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 7, July 2025.
Senolytic therapy restores neurovascular function, blood–brain barrier integrity, and cognitive performance in aged mice by targeting endothelial senescence. Findings highlight that brain microvascular endothelial cells are highly vulnerable to aging‐induced senescence, and early intervention in middle age may be the most effective strategy to prevent ...

Differentiating Temporal Plus “Insula” Epilepsy From Temporal Lobe Epilepsy by Brain Networks Based on Noninvasive Examinations

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 31, Issue 7, July 2025.
The classification model based on 18F‐FDG PET and scalp EEG brain network features effectively identifies TPE patients with insular involvement from TLE patients. There are differences in the local network features of the insular region between the two patient groups.

THE CONTRIBUTION OF NEUROPSYCHOLOGY IN AWAKE CRANIOTOMY: PRILIMINARY RESULTS

open access: yesDialogues in Clinical Neuroscience & Mental Health, 2018
OBJECTIVE: Aim of the modern oncological neurosurgery is to maximize the extent of tumor resection, with a parallel minimization of postoperative neurological deficits; therefore, localization of “eloquent” cortex is essential.
