Theoretical Researches on Axial-Flow Compressors (Part III))
In the previous reports (Part I and II), the calculating methods of various solid vortex type flow patterns were presented. In this report, the expression of efficiency of the solid vortex types is introduced. For the free vortex flow, the manometric efficiency of blade combining rotor and stator becomes maximum for the case of symmetric velocity ...

Stochastic axial compressor variable geometry schedule optimisation [PDF]
The design of axial compressors is dictated by the maximisation of flow efficiency at on design conditions whereas at part speed the requirement for operation stability prevails.

UNSTEADY STALL OF AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSORS [PDF]
Abstract : Experimental study of the separation of a laminar boundary layer from walls moving upstream and downstream in a steady flow using a shrouded rotating cylinder in a wind tunnel was continued. Boundary layer velocity profiles were obtained over approximately half the range of angular positions on the cylinder which appear to be necessary in ...

Axial Flow Characteristics Within a Screw Compressor [PDF]
Angle-resolved axial mean flow and turbulence characteristics were measured inside the working chamber of the male rotor of a screw compressor with high spatial and temporal resolution using laser Doppler velocimetry at two rotor speeds, 750 and 1000 rpm.

Comparative Assessment of Fouling Scenarios in an Axial Flow Compressor [PDF]
Abstract It is commonly accepted that fouling degrades severely axial compressor performance. Deposits build up as operating hours sum up, causing a decrease in the compressor's delivery pressure, efficiency, and flow capacity. Compressor susceptibility to fouling depends on many factors, such as atmospheric conditions, air quality ...

Wake Mixing in Axial Flow Compressors [PDF]
Over the years it has been speculated that the performance of multi-stage axial flow compressors is enhanced by the passage of a wake through a blade row prior to being mixed-out by viscous diffusion. The link between wake mixing and performance depends on the ability to recover the total pressure deficit of a wake by a reversible flow process.

On Initiation of Stall in Axial Flow Compressors [PDF]
This Technical Note calls attention to the fact that observed initiation of stall in an axial flow compressor can be explained by the pressure pulses reflecting between the stator and rotor blades. The phenomenon of reflection of pressure pulses between the rotor and stator blades of turbines was first observed in in 1965 and reported in 1966.
