Recalibration of Axial Pile Capacity Methods
Offshore Technology Conference, 2019The Lehane et al. (2017) pile load test (PLT) database (new PLT database) is one of the results of a joint industry project (JIP) to investigate the reliability of (CPT based) axial pile capacity methods for driven piles. The database contains results of high quality axial load tests of piles in sand and clay.

Axial capacity of perforated steel columns
Steel Construction, 2013AbstractA research group has recently been formed at the University of Salford with the general aim of investigating lightweight structures. The first task of the group is to look at the behaviour of perforated steel columns used for storage racking. The steel columns used in storage racking are made from perforated light gauge steel, with the ...

Predicting the axial capacity of piles in sand
Computers and Geotechnics, 2015Currently, although several tools have been proposed for the numerical modelling of the pile-soil interface, there is not a well-established framework concerning the quantitative impact that different estimations of the mechanical properties of this setting have on the prediction of the bearing capacity of piles.

Axial Capacity of Offshore Piles in Clay
Offshore Technology Conference, 1990ABSTRACT The paper describes two main aspects related to axially loaded offshore piles in clay: methods to determine the local ultimate skin friction and effects of cyclic loading on axial pile capacity. A new 'NGI-method' for determination of ultimate skin friction is described in detail.

Evaluation of axial capacity of engineered bamboo columns
Journal of Building Engineering, 2021Abstract Engineered bamboo has been attracting wider usage in construction as it is produced from fast growing renewable raw material and for its superior mechanical properties when compared against other renewable sources such as wood. The most commonly used types of engineered bamboo products are parallel bamboo strand lumber (PBSL) and laminated ...

Axial capacity of circular concrete-filled tube columns
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2004Abstract The behaviour of circular concrete-filled steel tubes (CFT) with various concrete strengths under axial load is presented. The effects of steel tube thickness, the bond strength between the concrete and the steel tube, and the confinement of concrete are examined. Measured column strengths are compared with the values predicted by Eurocode 4,

The effect of ageing on the axial capacity of piles in sand
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Geotechnical Engineering, 2013Open-ended steel pipe piles are used to support jacket structures in the offshore wind sector. These piles experience significant tensile axial loading in-service and the tensile shaft resistance thus governs their design. Although pile ageing (increased shaft resistance with time) has been noted by a number of workers and incorporation in design ...

Uplift Capacity of Axially Loaded Piles in Clays
International Journal of Geomechanics, 2011The present study aims at determining the uplift capacity of axially loaded piles in clays whose undrained cohesion increases linearly with depth. With the application of the axisymmetric static limit analysis approach, proposed recently by the writers, the variation of the nondimensional uplift factors with respect to changes in the embedment ratio ...

SOME REMARKS ON CMC COLUMN AXIAL CAPACITY TESTING.
SGEM International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference EXPO Proceedings, 2011According to recommendations in Eurocode 7 [11], every pile foundation design should I be based on the results of a static axial compressive load test (directly or as a reference 1 test for static calculations or dynamic testing). The ultimate load (capacity) is obtained on the basis of those results. In many cases, limitations of loading force (due to

Evaluation of Drained Axial Capacity for Drilled Shafts
Deep Foundations 2002, 2002The drained side and tip resistances of drilled shafts in cohesionless soils were evaluated from field load test case histories with axial uplift and compression loading. The side resistance was evaluated using the effective stress or beta (β) method, and the tip resistance in compression was evaluated using bearing capacity theory.
