Axial Capacity of Steel Angles with Local Deformation

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Axial compressive and tensile tests on twenty single equal-leg steel angles with different local deformations were presented. The results show the influence of local deformation on the axial capacity of steel angles. The angles with local deformations under axial compression fail mostly due to flexural-torsional buckling whereas angles without local ...

Parameters Affecting Axial Capacity of Piles In Clays

Offshore Technology Conference, 1975
ABSTRACT Pile-soil interface strength or the frictional capacity of a pile is primarily a function of the effective lateral pressure between the pile wall and the surrounding soils. These pressures will be affected by the state of vertical and lateral effective stresses in the soil prior to the pile installation and

Model Uncertainty in Pile Axial Capacity Calculations

Offshore Technology Conference, 1996
Abstract The use of a probabilistic approach for pile design is described and its importance is discussed. The paper illustrates the effect of the uncertainties in pile capacity analysis methods on the reliality of a design.

Axial Capacity Model for Shear-Damaged Columns

ACI Structural Journal, 2005
Most tests of reinforced concrete (RC) columns under seismic load conditions have been terminated shortly after loss of lateral load capacity. However, if a column can reliably carry gravity load after its lateral strength degradation begins, it may be possible to achieve considerable savings by considering the column as a secondary component.

Axial Capacity of Piles Supported on Intermediate Geomaterials

2008
The natural variability of intermediate geomaterials (IGMs) exacerbates uncertainties in deep foundation design and may ultimately increase construction costs. This study was undertaken to investigate the suitability of conventional pile capacity formulations to predict the axial capacity of piles driven into IGM formations.

On the Axial Holding Capacity of Torpedo Bases in Clay

Volume 9: Offshore Geotechnics; Torgeir Moan Honoring Symposium, 2017
A torpedo base is a type of conductor casing that embeds into the seabed mainly by free fall using its own weight as driving energy. One of the advantages of this concept is to install the conductor casing before the dynamic positioned (DP) drillship arrival at the location. This reduces the time of the well drilling leading to significant cost saving.

Physical Modelling of High-Capacity Piles under Axial Loading

2021
ABSTRACT This paper presents selected aspects of an on-going experimental study on the enhanced capacity of deep foundations under axial loading. The research uses geotechnical centrifuge model testing to examine the behaviour of rotary bored piles in over consolidated clay.

State-of-the-Art:Ultimate Axial Capacity of Grouted Piles.

Offshore Technology Conference, 1974
ABSTRACT A state-of-the-art review is presented of information on design, installation and performance of grouted piles. Grouted piles are finding increasing use as foundation elements for offshore structures where hard soil conditions, calcareous sands and/or deep embedment for high axial capacity preclude ...

Axial Load Capacity of Model Piles in Sand

2015
The present paper addresses laboratory tests using model piles with three different diameters. Pullout tests were performed on the model piles installed by monotonic jacking in saturated fine sandy soils prepared at two initial relative densities. Resistance correlations are proposed based on these results.

Value of Methods for Predicting Axial Pile Capacity

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1999
The purpose of this paper is to compare the value of predicting capacity using dynamic formulas, wave equation analysis, and dynamic monitoring without load tests. A database of pile load test results is used to quantify the precision associated with predictive methods.
