Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Experiment Study of Elasto-plastic Interactive Buckling of H-section Steel Beam-columns

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Six welded H-section steel specimens subjected to the axial compressive load, the in-plane shear force and the resulting bending moment around the cross-section major axis are tested monotonically to investigate the elasto-plastic interactive buckling ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Mechanical analysis of steel tube-confined reinforced concrete double-column piers

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering
To study the seismic performance of steel tube-confined reinforced concrete (STCRC) double-column piers, numerical models for two steel tube split configurations (Mode A and Mode B) were established in ABAQUS, to systematically analyze the effects of ...

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Shear behavior of high strength fiber reinforced concrete beams under different levels of axial compression forces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This study is part of a larger research work aimed to study the effects of fiber content, fiber type (corrugated shape and hooked-end), amount of web reinforcement and axial compression stress, on the shear behavior of high strength fiber reinforced ...

Axial Impact Load of a Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Member with Axial Compression Considering the Creep Effect

open access: yes, 2019
The dynamic loads acting on concrete-filled steel tubular members under axial impacts by rigid bodies were studied herein by FEM. The whole impact process was simulated and the time history of the impact load was obtained. The effects of eight factors on

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.

Numerical Modelling of Steel Angles with Double-Shear Splice Connections Under Compression

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Steel angles connected by bolts have been commonly used in transmission towers. Due to the limited length of steel angles, double-shear splice connections are generally adopted to connect steel angles in main members.
