In this study, exciting new bi‐/multi‐linear elastic behavior of soft elastic composites that accompany the activation of wrinkling in the embedded interfacial layers is analyzed. The new features and performance of these composite materials, including dramatic enhancements in energy storage, can be tailored by the concentration of interfacial layers ...

Cooled miniature pressure transducers effective at high temperatures [PDF]
Miniature pressure transducers in compact water-cooled mounts are placed in hotter and more confined environments than previously possible. It quantitatively measures high frequency total pressure fluctuations resulting from rotating stall in an axial ...

Stator well flows in axial compressors
Abstract This paper reports a study of the flow conditions in spaces often found beneath the stationary blades of modern compressors – stator wells. The design of the stator wells in a modern high-pressure turbofan can be a limiting factor. This study shows good comparison with existing experimental data upon the pressures and velocities in related ...

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Aero-acoustic performance of a continuous transonic wind-tunnel axial-flow compressor
A three-stage axial-flow compressor was developed for a continuous transonic wind tunnel. The rotor-stator spacing and the ratio of number of rotor blades to number of stator vanes were properly chosen for the purpose of aero-acoustic noise suppression ...

Bleed-Induced Distortion in Axial Compressors
In this paper, the influence of nonuniform bleed extraction on the stability of an axial flow compressor is quantified. Nonuniformity can be caused by several geometric factors (for example, plenum chamber size or number of off-take ducts), and a range of configurations is examined experimentally in a single stage compressor.

This study demonstrates a novel, additive manufacturing approach to produce complex, porous tungsten carbide structures using water‐based direct ink writing/robocasting. Leveraging a modified commercial printer and heat treatment, the process yields lightweight, electrically conductive 3D architectures capable of supporting a mechanical load.

Variably positioned guide vanes for aerodynamic choking [PDF]
A choking device to cause a sonic barrier to be formed which reduces the transmission of noise in a direction opposed to the direction of air flow in a compressor that may be part of an aircraft gas turbine engine is described.
