Gas Holdup and Liquid-Phase Dispersion in Packed Bubble Columns

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2011
The gas holdup and liquid phase axial dispersion coefficient are measured in two semi batch packed bubble columns, 10 and 15 cm diameter for an air–water system, at atmospheric conditions.

Scale Effects on the Hydrodynamics of Bubble Column [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2009
The main object of this study is to investigate the influence of the columngeometric and operating variables ( i.e., column diameter, superficial gas velocityand liquid viscosity) on the hydrodynamic parameter ( i.e.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Measurement of Axial Dispersion Coefficient of the Continuous Phase in a Pulsed Disc and Doughnut Column Using Dispersion Model with Radiotracer Technique [PDF]

open access: yesمجله علوم و فنون هسته‌ای, 2016
High efficiency and low required area for the pulsed columns are interesting and useful especially in nuclear industries in spite of exposure and radiation protection requirements.

Hydrodynamics in spray and packed liquid-liquid extraction columns: A review

open access: yesMacedonian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 2019
This work provides a review of hydrodynamic characteristics such as the slip velocity, the dispersed-phase holdup, mean drop size, and axial dispersion of non-mechanically agitated liquid-liquid (L-L) extractors, with special reference to spray and ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Effect of Solid Properties on Axial Liquid Dispersion in Bubble Column

open access: yesAl-Khawarizmi Engineering Journal, 2012
Experiments were conducted to study axial liquid dispersion coefficient in slurry bubble column of 0.15 m inside diameter and 1.6 m height using perforated plate gas distributor of 54 holes of a size equal to 1 mm diameter and with a 0.24 free area of ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
