The axial dispersion model and orthogonal collocation

Chemical Engineering Science, 1994
The aim of the note is to demonstrate a numerical solution procedure based on the method of orthogonal collocation (Finlayson, 1972; Villadsen and Michelsen, 1978), where the problems associated with the Danckwerts boundary conditions are avoided by treating the bed as a section in an infinitely long system.

Axial dispersion through tube constrictions

AIChE Journal, 1980
AbstractTracer gas dispersion was measured for laminar flow through three different tube constrictions, at orifice Reynolds numbers between 10 and 5000 and Schmidt numbers of 0.213 and 0.769. Each constriction generates a confined jet which significantly enhances axial dispersion at intermediate Reynolds numbers ranging from 100 to 1000.

AXIAL DISPERSION IN THE ANNULAR BED REACTOR

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1984
The objective of the present work was to study the effects of axial dispersion on the behavior of the annular bed reactor using the methanation of carbon monoxide as the test reaction.

Axial dispersion in coiled tubular reactors

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1986
Abstract A theoretical and experimental treatment of axial dispersion in coiled tubes is presented. The dispersion, δ, is related to the theoretical plate height divided by four times the radius of the tube (H/4r). This parameter, when plotted against the product of the Reynolds number and the Schmidt number (ReSc), accurately predicts maxima in ...

Axial dispersion in packed fiber beds

The Chemical Engineering Journal and the Biochemical Engineering Journal, 1995
Abstract The application of fibrous sorbent materials in gas and liquid separations as an alternative to conventional granular sorbents has attracted increased attention over the last decade. Though axial dispersion of flow in granular beds has been investigated extensively, published experimental data concerning the dispersion phenomena in porous ...

Axial Dispersion in an Apparatus with Mobile Packing

Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 1993
The paper deals with modelling of the flow of liquid on a plate with mobile packing. The results of measurements have been interpreted by means of a simple dispersion model whose two parameters were determined from the nonideal step-input of a tracer and its response.

Axial dispersion in plate-pulsed columns

Bioprocess Engineering, 1987
The residence time distribution (RTD) of the phase under continuous flow and dispersed flow was measured in a plate-pulsed column under countercurrent liquid-liquid flow, and modelled using (i) the axial dispersion model and (ii) the noninteger ideal stage cascade model. The axial mixing in the continuous phase was found to be significantly higher than

Axial dispersion in a channel with oscillating walls

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1993
An analysis is made of solute transport through a fluid within a long, but finite, channel or pipe whose walls remain parallel but oscillate transversely. When the fluid is viscous, the wall motion causes steady Streaming. Axial dispersion of solute is calculated over a wide parameter range, and mean longitudinal transport is found to be greatly ...

Axial dispersion of spheres fluidized with liquids

AIChE Journal, 1966
AbstractSolids dispersion due to the simultaneous diffusion (random particle motion) and classification (segregation) of fluidized spheres has been investigated. The model developed permits calculation of the mean concentration of spheres of both sizes in a mixture of two sizes of fluidized spheres as a function of bed length.

Axial dispersion in flow porous electrodes

Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, 1977
The coefficient of axial dispersionDL in a porous electrode, composed of rolled 80-mesh platinum screen, was determined using the process of the flow electrolysis of 2.0×10−3 M K3Fe(CN)6 in 1 MKCl in water. The results were analysed in the light of an earlier model for flow electrodes.
