Independent determinations of the coefficients of axial dispersion and of the mass-transfer kinetics have been found to be concentration dependent in protein chromatography. The consequences of this observation are studied on a theoretical basis. Numerical calculations of breakthrough curves were carried out, assuming a linear dependence of these ...

Abstract The simplest way of testing flow systems for non-ideal flow behaviour is based on the axially dispersed plug-flow model. A very simple experimental technique involves manually injecting a dose of tracer into the system and following the resulting response(s) down-stream. A method is proposed using a general description fitting to such pulses

Abstract The aim of the present work is to propose a simple, reliable and effective model of hydrodynamics in fluidized bed reactor (FBR). The long-term objective of these models is to be able to use them for modeling and optimization of adsorption processes in fluidized bed columns.

Residence time measurements are introduced as a transient measurement technique for the fast and convenient determination of axial dispersion coefficients in plate heat exchangers. In front of the exchanger inlet a salt solution pulse is injected into the steady flow stream and propagates with dispersion to the exit of the exchanger.

Gas Holdup and Axial Dispersion Coefficient in Gas-Liquid Cocurrent Spout-Fluid Beds
Separation Science and Technology, 1996Abstract An experimental investigation was carried out to determine the effect of gas velocity, liquid velocity, and column diameter on the gas holdup and axial dispersion coefficients in cocurrent spout-fluid beds in three columns with diameters of 74, 114, and 144 mm, all with a height of 1.20 m, at superficial gas and liquid velocities of 0.001–0 ...

Identification of axial dispersion coefficients by model method in gas/liquid/solid fluidised beds
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2001The axial dispersion coefficient, representative of the hydrodynamic behaviour of a fluidised bed, is determined by the model method. This method must be able to simulate the model. Therefore, a discretisation by orthogonal collocation is performed. Then, this determination is carried out in a fluidised bed, which tries to simulate an anaerobic biogas ...

Principal Axes and Values of the Dispersion Coefficient in the 2D Axially Symmetric Porous Medium
2010We perform the diagonalization of the 2nd rank dispersion tensor D ij in the 2-dim anisotropic porous medium with two mirror lines, which are perpendicular to each other. We derive the eigenvalues of the matrix and calculate an angular measure of anisotropy.
