A correlation for dispersed phase axial mixing coefficients in rotating disc contactors

Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 2005
AbstractA correlation for the estimation of dispersed phase axial mixing coefficients in terms of all the operating and fundamental variables was established. The proposed correlations are found to be a good representation of the present data (260 data points) obtained using four liquid‐liquid systems from two different sources.

MEASUREMENT OF AXIAL DISPERSION COEFFICIENT IN A PACKED BED USING X-RAY

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2002
Dispersion of the liquid in a porous media is of great importance in many areas of engineering and has been studied by several researchers so far. A new experimental method has been developed to measure the dispersion coefficient. X-ray absorption technique provides a better understanding of dispersion that characterizes the mixing phenomenon in the ...

Measurement and Correlation of Packed-Bed Axial Dispersion Coefficients in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1996
Axial dispersion coefficients of squalene, benzoic acid, and oleic acid were measured in packed beds using supercritical carbon dioxide as a solvent over the temperature range 313−333 K, pressure range 100−300 bar, and Reynolds number range 2−80. Measurements were performed under both horizontal and vertical flow conditions, using a variety of particle

Extended temperature oscillation measurement technique for heat transfer and axial dispersion coefficients

Revue Générale de Thermique, 1998
An extended temperature oscillation measurement technique based on the axial dispersion model is proposed for the determination of both heat transfer coefficients and axial dispersion coefficients in heat exchangers. The test technique uses a sinusoidal inlet temperature variation which is realized with a computer controlled compact electric heater ...

Variation of the local effective axial dispersion coefficient with bed height in expanded beds

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2005
Abstract The local axial dispersion characteristics are very important and fundamental for the analyzing, modeling and understanding of biomolecules adsorption performance in expanded bed adsorption. In this work, the local effective axial dispersion coefficients along the bed height of an expanded bed system with porous adsorbent particles ...

Measurement of the axial dispersion coefficient of cohesive powders in rotary kilns

2016
While continuous rotary calcination is a widely used thermal treatment in large-scale catalyst manufacturing, fundamental understanding of the process is absent from scientific literature. Thus, the goal of this research is to improve fundamental understanding of rotary calcination processes to aid in scale-up.

Gas‐bubble hold‐up and axial dispersion coefficient of emulsion phases in fluidized beds

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1987
AbstractA model for liquid mixing in a gas‐liquid bubble column is extended to predict gas‐bubble hold‐up and axial dispersion coefficient of emulsion phases in fluidized beds. Reasonable agreement is found between the proposed model which includes no adjustable parameter and the available experimental data and correlations.

Evaluation of dispersion coefficients in axially dispersed plug-flow systems using a general analytical expression for a random input pulse

The Chemical Engineering Journal, 1973
Abstract The simplest way of testing flow systems for non-ideal flow behaviour is based on the axially dispersed plug-flow model. A very simple experimental technique involves manually injecting a dose of tracer into the system and following the resulting response(s) down-stream. A method is proposed using a general description fitting to such pulses

Simplified correlations of axial dispersion coefficient and porosity in a solid-liquid fluidized bed adsorber

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2017
Abstract The aim of the present work is to propose a simple, reliable and effective model of hydrodynamics in fluidized bed reactor (FBR). The long-term objective of these models is to be able to use them for modeling and optimization of adsorption processes in fluidized bed columns.
