Axial Capillary Forces

2013
This chapter presents classical techniques to compute the shape of a meniscus using the energetic method and its numerical implementation using Surface Evolver. It provides the numerical solution of the Laplace equation for axially symmetric configuration and some useful analytical approximations (circular or toroidal approximation, parabolic ...

Effect Of Axial Load On Forced Vibrations Of Beams

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1993
Abstract The steady state linear response of beams subjected to a distributed, harmonically varying, transverse force is considered. A static axial load, either tensile or compressive, is also applied to the beam, and damping is included in the analysis. Four standard sets of boundary conditions are treated.

Axially Symmetric Force-Free Plasmoids

The Physics of Fluids, 1964
The theory of force-free magnetic fields is applied to equilibrium configurations of an incompressible fluid with axisymmetric motions. It is demonstrated that solutions satisfying collinear force-free flow satisfy the vorticity equation for zero viscosity.

Axial Capillary Forces (Dynamics)

2013
Up to now, we have only considered liquid bridges at equilibrium. Therefore, the forces applied by these menisci on solids they connect are only due to surface tension effects. If the meniscus is stretched or compressed with an important velocity or an important acceleration, viscous or inertial effects have to be added to capillary forces.

Axial force reduction of a homopolar machine

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2012
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe the optimization process of a homopolar machine. The work has been focused on a reduction of axial forces acting on the rotor. Design/methodology/approach A novel machine design has been proposed and ...

THE THREE AXIAL FORCES OF AN OFFSET SLIM

Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1979
Abstract A model of an offset single sided linear induction motor is presented. The formulation is based on a combination of field and circuit approaches to predict the performance of an offset SLIM. Two dimensional field solutions are used to obtain the self and mutual inductances of the windings by representing more accurately the transverse topology

Design of web stiffeners: axial forces

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2003
Abstract Existing design methods for web stiffeners differ widely in concept and in the stiffener size which results. This paper describes part of an investigation which aims to provide a rational, usable and validated design method for transverse stiffeners.

Axial radiation force of a Bessel beam on a sphere and direction reversal of the force

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2006
An expression is derived for the radiation force on a sphere placed on the axis of an ideal acoustic Bessel beam propagating in an inviscid fluid. The expression uses the partial-wave coefficients found in the analysis of the scattering when the sphere is placed in a plane wave traveling in the same external fluid.
