Axial length: An underestimated endophenotype of myopia
Medical Hypotheses, 2010Myopia is a major threat for vision health across the world. Around 1 in 4 in the West and over 3 in 4 in the East are suffering from this common eye disorder. It is a complex trait affected by both genetic and environmental determinants. Axial length is an essential man-made parameter generated from ocular biometric components.

Central Retinal Vein Obstruction and Axial Length
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1990ABSTRACT The axial lengths of 24 consecutive adult eyes with unilateral central retinal vein obstruction (CRVO) were compared with those of contralateral unaffected eyes and those of a control population. The lengths of the two eyes of persons with a unilateral CRVO were not significantly different.

Association between axial length and uveitis
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental OphthalmologyMultiple studies have examined the association between myopia and various ocular diseases, but there is no clinical report of the relationship between myopia and uveitis. This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between myopia and uveitis by comparing axial lengths (AL) of uveitis patients with control individuals. This study included 1052 eyes ...

Ocular Rigidity and Axial Length
2021The coefficient of ocular rigidity varies with ocular volume. Axial length is a parameter that can be easily measured in the clinical setting and is a good surrogate marker for ocular volume. Eyes with longer axial lengths and myopia refraction seem to generally have a low ocular rigidity coefficient while eyes with smaller axial length and/or ...

Axial Length Changes after Retinal Detachment Surgery
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1977A-scan echography was an accurate method for detecting changes in the depth of the anterior chamber, lens thickness, and length of the vitreous cavity after retinal detachment surgery in 30 eyes. Approximately 60% of the eyes had significant alterations in axial lengths exceeding+/-0.36 mm in aphakic eyes and +/-0.54 mm in phakic eyes.

Relation between Axial Length and Ocular Parameters
Ophthalmologica, 2009Purpose: To investigate the relation between axial length (AL) and ocular parameters. Methods: Measurements of ocular biometric parameters were performed with an optical biometer, pachymeter, optical coherence tomography, and an automatic refractometer. AL, refractive error (RE), central corneal thickness, anterior

Axial Length Increase in Lid-Sutured Rabbits
Survey of Ophthalmology, 1999Using eyelid sutures, we induced axial elongation in 20 15-day-old rabbits. When the eyelid sutures were opened, the eyes revealed a slight increase in their axial length. This evident axial elongation continued to evolve despite restitution of functional integrity to the previously sutured eyes.

[Axial length and radial keratotomy].
Bulletin de la Societe belge d'ophtalmologie, 1991The axial length of 68 eyes has been measured before radial keratotomy. This measurement can influence the decision of a procedure. In 49 cases, a postoperative measurement was done, and a mean variation of the length of the eyeball of -0.1 mm is demonstrated.
