Magnetic Fluid Infiltrated Microbottle Resonator Sensor With Axial Confined Mode

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2020
We report a magnetic field sensor based on an optofluidic microbottle resonator (OFMBR) with whispering gallery mode (WGM) strongly confined in the axial direction, with the hollow core inherently easy to infiltrate the magnetic fluid.

On Possible Light-Torsion Mixing in Background Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2009
The interaction of the light with propagating axial torsion fields in the presence of an external magnetic field has been investigated. Axial torsion fields appearing in higher derivative quantum gravity possess two states, with spin one and zero, with ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Axial anomaly and magnetism of nuclear and quark matter

open access: yes, 2008
We consider the response of the QCD ground state at finite baryon density to a strong magnetic field B. We point out the dominant role played by the coupling of neutral Goldstone bosons, such as pi^0, to the magnetic field via the axial triangle anomaly.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Fluid dynamics of the magnetic field dependent thermosolutal convection and viscosity between coaxial contracting discs

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
The effects of magnetic field dependent (MFD) thermosolutal convection and MFD viscosity of the fluid dynamics are investigated between squeezing discs rotating with different velocities.

Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of twisted magnetic flux tubes in the solar wind

open access: yes, 2013
Solar wind plasma is supposed to be structured in magnetic flux tubes carried from the solar surface. Tangential velocity discontinuity near the boundaries of individual tubes may result in Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, which may contribute into the ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Sensitivity analysis of the lithospheric magnetic field at satellite altitude: the effects of the inducing field and the shape of the magnetic lithosphere

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
As a means of quantitative interpretation, forward calculations of the global lithospheric magnetic field in the Spherical Harmonic (SH) domain have been widely used to reveal geophysical, lithological, and geothermal variations in the lithosphere ...

Can slow roll inflation induce relevant helical magnetic fields?

open access: yes, 2011
We study the generation of helical magnetic fields during single field inflation induced by an axial coupling of the electromagnetic field to the inflaton. During slow roll inflation, we find that such a coupling always leads to a blue spectrum with $B^2(
