Study of an Axial-Flux Modulated Superconducting Magnetic Gear

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2018
An axial-flux modulated superconducting magnetic gear (AFMSMG) is specifically studied using superconducting bulk magnets (SBM) instead of permanent magnets. A mathematical modelling of the SBM as the magnetic field source is built from the point of the physical superconducting mechanism.

A high-performance axial-field magnetic gear

Journal of Applied Physics, 2006
The paper describes an axial-field topology of magnetic gear, which is particularly suitable for applications which require a hermetic isolation between the input and output shafts, such as pumps for use in the chemical/pharmaceutical, food, and aerospace industries.

An Axial Magnetic Gear Design with Changeable Ratios

2018 8th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE), 2018
Recent developments in the field of magnetic gear and magnetic gearing machines have opened up innumerable opportunities for engineers and researchers. Conventional mechanical gears require direct mechanical contact between the drive and driven toothed wheels, which gives rise to problems such as wear, breakages and noise.

Proposal of an axial-type magnetic-geared motor

2012 XXth International Conference on Electrical Machines, 2012
This paper proposes an axial-type magnetic-geared motor with permanent magnets only on the high-speed rotor. The operational principle and design technique utilizing the inherent overload protection are described. Finally, the torque-speed characteristics are computed by using 3-D finite element method analysis.

An axial flux magnetically geared permanent magnet wind generator

IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2015
This paper presents the design, construction, and experimental performance evaluation of an axial flux magnetically geared permanent magnet (MGPM) machine for wind power application. The optimum electromagnetic design for both magnetically coupled and decoupled configurations is described.

Axial Magnetic Gear Flux Density Harmonic Spectrum Analysis

2021 17th Conference on Electrical Machines, Drives and Power Systems (ELMA), 2021
The harmonic spectrum of the flux density of the magnetic field is vital for the efficiency and for the torque interaction of the axial magnetic gears. In the present study is performed a numerical field modelling of an axial magnetic gear in order to estimate the harmonic spectrum of its axial flux density.

Analysis of axial field magnetic gears with Halbach arrays

2015 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference (IEMDC), 2015
Magnetic gears can scale the torque and speed of rotary systems, while avoiding problems associated with transferring torque through physical contact. This work uses 3D finite element analysis to parametrically characterize the performance benefits which can be obtained from applying Halbach magnet arrays to axial field magnetic gears. It is found that

A HTS Stator-Excited Axial-Flux Magnetic Gear With Static Seal

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2021
This paper proposes a novel high-temperature superconducting stator-excited axial-flux magnetic gear (HTS-SEAFMG) for the high-torque transmitting system. The proposed magnetic gear combines the merits of both HTS-excitation and stator-excitation. By using the HTS-excitation, a high air-gap flux density can be easily obtained, thus achieving the high ...

Analytical Investigation of the Magnetic-Field Distribution in an Axial-Flux Magnetic-Geared Machine

2019 14th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA), 2019
This paper proposes a novel two-dimensional (2-D) analytical method to predict the performance of an axial-flux magnetic-geared machine under no-load and load condition. The computation is based on the solution of Laplace's or Poisson's equation with boundary conditions for each elementary rectangular region.
