Comparison of Surface Permanent Magnet Axial and Radial Flux Coaxial Magnetic Gears

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2018
This paper provides a thorough, parametric comparison of axial and radial flux coaxial magnetic gears with surface-mounted permanent magnets. While both topologies share similar operating principles and can achieve comparable shear stresses, they exhibit different scaling trends with respect to key design parameters.

A low torque ripple flux focusing axial magnetic gear

7th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2014), 2014
In this paper the torque density characteristics for an axial magnetic gear using a flux focusing topology is studied when using (NdFeB) rare-earth magnets. The torque density is improved by conducting a basic geometric sweep analysis of the most important variable parameters.

Comparative Study of Axial Flux Magnetically Geared Machine with Conventional Axial Flux YASA Machine

2018 IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG), 2018
Magnetic gears (MGs) have recently been proposed to replace conventional mechanical gears in various electromechanical systems. MGs have competitive torque transmission capability compared with their mechanical counterpart[1]. Moreover, by integrating an MG into a conventional PM machine, a magnetically geared machine has emerged, greatly broadening ...

Modeling of an axial-type magnetic gear using a reluctance-based magnetic equivalent circuit

2016 IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC), 2016
This paper presents a new steady-state model of an axial-type magnetic gear (ATMG) employing a 2D magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) based on reluctance networks (RN). The MEC approach combines reasonable accuracy with moderate computational effort. This is a new model that will allow a faster analysis and design for the ATMG.

Cogging torque minimization in double sided axial flux magnetic gear

The 6th Power Electronics, Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC2015), 2015
Magnetic gears (MGs) have received little attention due to their low torque density and low torque quality. A way to increasing torque density in MGs is using axial flux configuration which increases permanent magnet surface while reducing the required iron core. An axial flux MGs can be designed as a single or dual sided one.
