Limbal and axial chamber depth variations

Acta Ophthalmologica, 1986
Abstract In an unselected population sample of 505 adult Greenland Eskimos limbal chamber depth (LCD) was estimated according to van Herick et al. (1969), and axial chamber depth (ACD) was measured optically using Haag Streit pachymetry. For comparison LCD was estimated in 308 Danes above 40 years.

Variation of axial temperature in thermal plasma jets

Measurement Science and Technology, 1997
The excitation temperature of the plasma column in a spray torch can be determined using the atomic Boltzmann method. The spatially integrated intensities of emission lines resulting from Ar-I transitions in the wavelength region 400 - 451 nm have been measured.

Seasonal variation in axial elongation in children with orthokeratology treatment

Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics
Abstract Purpose To investigate seasonal variations in changes of axial length (AL) among myopic children wearing orthokeratology (ortho‐K) lenses. Methods The data of 600 children receiving ...

Axial Buckling of Composite Cylindrical Shells With Periodic Thickness Variation

Buckling and Postbuckling of Composite Structures, 1994
Abstract This study addresses the effect of thickness variation on the stability of the composite cylindrical shells under axial compression. Various lamination configurations and three commonly used composite materials are considered.

Axial variation of xylem conduits in the Earth’s tallest trees

Trees, 2019
In the Earth’s tallest tree species, axial variation in conduit size matches theoretical predictions minimizing the accumulation of hydraulic resistance with height growth, within a constraint of maximum conduit diameter. Hydraulic limitations to tree height can be mitigated by widening the conducting elements toward a tree’s base. However, size limits

Effect of Axial Velocity Variation in Aerofoil Cascades

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1971
The effect of the variation of axial velocity in the incompressible flow through a cascade of aerofoils is discussed and it is shown that changes take place in the flow angles and in the blade circulation. A method is proposed by which the effect of axial velocity variation on a known two-dimensional flow or alternatively the two-dimensional ...

The Influence of Axial Load Variation on the Seismic Performance of RC Buildings

2016
It is well known that the axial load can largely vary during a seismic event, playing an important role in the seismic performance of RC columns. In existing buildings this problem can be even more significant than in new ones, since the material can easily present poor mechanical properties.

Extinction of a premixed flame by a large variation in axial velocity

Combustion and Flame, 2004
Abstract Unsteady flame propagation in a tube is examined by introducing a mean velocity variation larger than the burning velocity to a stabilized flame for a period longer than the reaction time scale. In our previous work, stabilized propane–air flames were classified as either one-dimensional or two-dimensional flames.

Variational method on axial-channeling radiation of MeV electrons

Radiation Effects, 1984
Abstract Peak energies of axial-channeling radiations of MeV electrons in Si are calculated by the variational method with a orthonormal trial fucntion, where the Doyle-Turner potential is used as the electron-atom interaction. The calculated peak energies for a Si crystal show good agreements with measured ones.

Flow through tubes with sinusoidal axial variations in diameter

AIChE Journal, 1979
AbstractAn iteration technique has been developed to solve the equations of motion for flow of an incompressible Newtonian fluid through a circular tube with a radius which varies sinusoidally in the axial direction. The iteration is essentially geometric; one proceeds from a solution for flow through a tube in which the wavelength of diameter change ...
