Gross Plastic Deformation of Axisymmetric Pressure Vessel Heads [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 2006
The gross plastic deformation and associated plastic loads of four axisymmetric torispherical pressure vessels are determined by two criteria of plastic collapse: the ASME twice elastic slope (TES) criterion and the recently proposed plastic work curvature (PWC) criterion.

Large Deformation Elastic Analysis of Pressurized FGM Thick Cylindrical Shells with Nonlinear Plane Elasticity Theory (NPET) [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Composite Structures
In the present study, the governing equation of pressurized axisymmetric thick cylinders made of Functionally Graded materials (FGMs) with large deformations is derived using the Nonlinear Plane Elasticity Theory (NPET).

Irreversible deformation of a rotating disc under plasticity and creep

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2021
This paper is devoted to the study of deformation of a disk rotating with variable velocity (acceleration, deceleration, rotation at a constant rate) under consecutive accumulation of irreversible creep and plastic flow strains. The deformation processes

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Integrable deformations of the Breitenlohner–Maison model from 4d Chern–Simons theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We derive integrable deformations of the 2d Breitenlohner–Maison (BM) sigma model that describes the stationary, axisymmetric sector of 4d general relativity, as well as higher-rank generalisations thereof, using the framework of 4d Chern–Simons theory ...

High‐Resolution Corrosion Fingerprinting of Alloy Libraries via Microdroplet Spectroelectrochemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic‐liquid microdroplet spectroelectrochemistry enables stable, localized electrochemical measurements over extended timescales. By coupling impedance spectroscopy, wetting analysis, finite‐element simulations, and operando Raman spectroscopy, it disentangles geometrical and electrochemical effects, opening new opportunities for rapid corrosion ...

Application of micro-computer tomography and inverse finite element analysis for characterizing the visco-hyperelastic response of bulk liver tissue using indentation

open access: yesSN Applied Sciences, 2021
In-vitro mechanical indentation experimentation is performed on bulk liver tissue of lamb to characterize its nonlinear material behaviour. The material response is characterized by a visco-hyperelastic material model by the use of 2-dimensional inverse ...

Large Deformation and Adhesive Contact Studies of Axisymmetric Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 2013
A model membrane contact system consisting of an acrylic copolymer membrane and a PDMS substrate was utilized to evaluate a recently developed nonlinear large-deformation adhesive contact analysis. Direct measurements of the local membrane apex strain during noncontact inflation indicated that the neo-Hookean model provides an accurate measure of ...

A 3D Human Neuron‐on‐Chip Platform to Monitor Neuronal Injury Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel 3D Neuron‐on‐Chip model that can maintain human PSC‐derived excitatory prefrontal cortex neurons in 3D hydrogels and can be used to monitor neuronal injury responses over time. Results show injury‐induced acute neuronal excitotoxicity, declining neuronal connectivity, and the activation of a neurodegenerative, SASP‐like ...

On axisymmetric deformations of nonlinear viscoelastic membranes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 1978
Abstract In previous work it was shown that a class of axisymmetric viscoelastic membrane problems can be reduced to the numerical solution of a system of partial differential—Volterra integral equations. This general method has the disadvantage that a change in constitutive equation requires rederiva- tion of specific details of the governing system.
