NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF CHOCKED CONVERGING-DIVERGING NOZZLES FOR THRUSTER APPLICATION

open access: yesInternational Islamic University Malaysia Engineering Journal, 2011
The need for low-thrust propulsion systems for small scale spacecraft is growing. Low thrust characteristics generally lead to low Reynolds number flows from propulsive devices that utilize converging-diverging nozzle.

Experimental and analytical investigation of axisymmetric supersonic cruise nozzle geometry at Mach numbers from 0.60 to 1.30 [PDF]

open access: yes
Quantitative pressure and force data for five axisymmetric boattail nozzle configurations were examined. These configurations simulate the variable-geometry feature of a single nozzle design operating over a range of engine operating conditions.

Effects of vibrational nonequilibrium on the inviscid design of an axisymmetric nozzle for hypersonic flow [PDF]

open access: yes
An axisymmetric, hypersonic nozzle for arc-heated air is described. The method of characteristics is used to compute an inviscid nozzle contour in which vibrational nonequilibrium is approximated by the sudden-freeze technique.

Direct numerical simulation of the near-field dynamics of annular gas-liquid two-phase jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Copyright © 2009 American Institute of Physics.Direct numerical simulation has been used to examine the near-field dynamics of annular gas-liquid two-phase jets. Based on an Eulerian approach with mixed fluid treatment, combined with an adapted volume of

Entrainment by axisymmetric jets impinging on a flat plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
An experimental technique is described for the determination of the entrainment in an axisymmetric gaseous jet impinging normally on a flat plate situated below the nozzle.

Numerical Study of Subsonic Hot and Near-Sonic Submerged Jets Based on a Two-Fluid Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics
This paper discusses the hot subsonic and near-sonic axisymmetric submerged stationary jets flowing from a nozzle with a radius of 25.4 mm. The Mach number at the nozzle exit is 0.376 for a subsonic jet, and for a near-sonic jet, it is 0.985.

Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Edge Tones in High Speed Jets

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2013
Experimental and theoretical investigations of the high speed jets impinge on a wedge-shaped edge have been conducted. Sonic circular and square jets of the same hydraulic diameter are examined in the present study.

Static performance of an axisymmetric nozzle with post-exit vanes for multiaxis thrust vectoring [PDF]

open access: yes
An investigation was conducted in the static test facility of the Langley 16-Foot Transonic Tunnel to determine the flow-turning capability and the nozzle internal performance of an axisymmetric convergent-divergent nozzle with post-exit vanes installed ...
