Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ31/SiC and AZ31/CNT Composites Produced by Friction Stir Processing

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2015
Magnesium is a light structural metal that is increasingly used in the aerospace and automobile industries. Its mechanical strength can be enhanced by adding reinforcing particles to the material. Friction stir processing, a solid state process has been used to insert reinforcing particles into the structure of a material to create a composite with ...

The Press Formability in Magnesium Alloy AZ31

Materials Science Forum, 2000
Formability on cylindrical deep drawing and mechanical properties at relatively low temperature was investigated for a commercially rolled AZ31 magnesium. A small punch radius, which ratio to thickness was 2.5, was adoped intentionally. At room temperature, brittle fracture occurred near the flat portion of punch shoulder like as blanking. The ratio of

Corrosion Behavior of AZ31 and AZ31-0.5Ca in Different Concentrations of NaCl and Na2SO4 at Various Temperatures

Corrosion
Magnesium (Mg) alloys are used in many structural and automotive applications, though the high susceptibility toward corrosion poses a bottleneck toward its diverse applications. Microalloying Mg is often reported to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg.

Citrate Gel Conversion Coating on AZ31 Magnesium Alloys

ECS Transactions, 2013
A citrate gel conversion system was developed in this study. The citrate gel, which was obtained by adding ethanol into sodium citrate aqueous solution, was dissolved in glycerin to form the conversion solution. After the consecutive steps of roll coating and heating, a citrate gel conversion coating was made on AZ31 magnesium alloys. Microstructure

Toughening of a vacuum diffusion-bonded heterostructured AZ31/WE94/AZ31 alloy by interfacial reinforcement

Materials Science and Technology
Heterostructured materials have recently attracted extensive attentions from the materials community due to their superior combination of strength and ductility as compared to the conventional homogeneous counterparts. In the present study, the laminate AZ31/WE94/AZ31 Mg alloy was produced by vacuum diffusion bonding. The post annealing was carried out

High temperature oxidation of AZ31+0.3wt.%Ca and AZ31+0.3wt.%CaO magnesium alloys

Corrosion Science, 2013
Abstract Magnesium alloys of AZ31 + 0.3 wt.%Ca and AZ31 + 0.3 wt.%CaO were cast and oxidized between 450 and 650 °C in atmospheric air. The initially added Ca and CaO enabled to cast the alloys in air without using environmentally hazardous SF6 gas, by forming a thin CaO-rich barrier layer at the surface during casting.

Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization of ARB AZ31

Materials Science Forum, 2013
In this work the influence of accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process on the microstructure and the mechanical characteristic is investigated. Therefore, AZ31 magnesium sheets were successfully deformed through ARB for a maximum of three passes. Twin roll cast sheets and twin roll cast sheets with subsequent heat treatment (480 °C, 1 h) were used as ...

Forging of Mg-Alloys AZ31 and AZ80

Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2005
Mg-wrought alloys recently became an engineer material of constantly increasing interest. The mechanical properties of extruded Mg-feedstock of the alloys AZ80 and AZ31 indicate their suitability for automotive applications in form of high-quality forgings. Therefore a detailed knowledge about the forming behaviour is of particular importance. In order

Damping in AZ31 ECAP-Processed Alloy

Solid State Phenomena, 2008
Study of anelasticity in AZ31 magnesium-based alloy in initial (hot-rolled at 370 оС) condition and after one and four passes of equal channel angular pressing is carried out. An internal friction peak was found at 170 °C at a frequency f of about 1 Hz.
