An evaluation of formability using micro-embossing on an ultrafine-grained magnesium AZ31 alloy processed by high-pressure torsion

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
An ultrafine-grained (UFG) magnesium AZ31 alloy was achieved with an average grain size of ∼200 nm by high-pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature (RT) under a pressure of 6.0 GPa through 5 turns. Micro-embossing tests were conducted in a V-groove die

Ultrasonic Atomization Spray Coating of PCL on an Mg‐Based Alloy Enhanced by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation for Improved Adhesion, Corrosion Resistance, and Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 21, November 2025.
Plasma electrolytic oxidation is combined with ultrasonic spray deposition of polycaprolactone (PCL) on WE43 magnesium alloy to improve adhesion, corrosion resistance, and cytocompatibility. The hybrid coating demonstrates significantly reduced hydrogen evolution and enhances mechanical bonding, offering a promising strategy for next‐generation ...

Autonomous Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 45, November 13, 2025.
An ideal implant should mimic native tissues such that it can integrate, sense, heal, and continue to function, i.e., be autonomous. Although early, there are good steps taken in this way, e.g., the development of stimuli‐responsive, self‐powering, self‐actuating, self‐healing, self‐regenerating, and self‐aware implants.

Advances in Magnesium Metal and Its Alloys for Promoting Angiogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 113, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Magnesium‐based materials show great promise for bone repair due to their biodegradability, bone‐like mechanical properties, and dual pro‐angiogenic/osteogenic activities. Pure magnesium implants enhance vascularization in bone defect models through Mg2+ release.

Superplastic characteristics in an extruded AZ31 magnesium alloy.

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 1999
Deformation characteristics at elevated temperatures were examined in an AZ31 magnesium alloy. The asreceived bar was extruded for refineing its microstructure. The extruded alloy had equiaxed grains with an average grain size of ∼5 μm. Tensile test revealed that the material exhibited superplasticity.
