Circumventing an azeotrope is reactive distillation
Using a McCabe-Thiele diagram, we explain nonintuitive behavior in a binary reactive distillation column where we react and separate two isomers displaying a maximum boiling azeotrope.

Abstract Electrification of distillation offers a promising route to reducing scope‐1 emissions from one of the chemical industry's most energy‐intensive unit operations. However, conventional adiabatic columns are dynamically inflexible: Long, energy‐intensive start‐ups make shutdown and restart impractical under variable electricity prices and ...

ABSTRACT This study proposes a novel double‐column vapor recompression heat pump (DCVRHP) distillation process for separating ternary wide‐boiling‐range mixtures under two different vapor conditions: n‐hexane/n‐heptane/n‐octane using low pressure steam and n‐hexanol/n‐octanol/n‐decanol using high pressure steam.

Microstructures of negative and positive azeotropes [PDF]
Azeotropes famously impose fundamental restrictions on distillation processes, yet their special thermodynamic properties make them highly desirable for a diverse range of industrial and technological applications. Using neutron diffraction, this study provides first insights into the microstructures of azeotropes.

Revisiting the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from methanol and carbon dioxide
Abstract The process for producing dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from carbon dioxide (CO2) and methanol is explored in this article. It provides an overview of the thermodynamics involved in DMC synthesis, discussing the challenges and potential solutions. The article highlights the reported use of catalysts and dehydrating agents to improve DMC yield and ...

UNIQUAC activity coefficient model for the systems of 1-propanol + water and 2-propanol + water [PDF]
Predictions of vapor liquid equilibria and azeotrope conditions of binary systems of 1-propanol+ water and 2-propanol+water at 30, 60, and 100 kPa were conducted in this work.
